Instrument cluster backlight (Headlight/fog light dial)

Hi, can someone offer some advice /solution to the problem.

My main instrument cluster lights up -no problem there, but the dial where you turn on the headlights and fog lights on partially lights up (namely the front & rear fog lights symbols).

The icons at the top of the headlight dial dont light up. Is there are bulb/led that can be replace or does it require the whole dial unit to be replaced?

On the first day i brought mine the indicator lights on the cluster display were very faint.
I would have thought just a change of bulbs behind cluster should have sorted it.
Audi changed the whole instrument cluster...
Was advised Involved whole heap of work programming keys and alarm etc.
Was covered by warranty can dig out invoice if required as price guide.
Hope this helps...

Think the OP is talking about the symbols around the actual light switch itself, not the symbols within the actual instrument cluster?

Not that I can help with either though!!! Presume the switch unit will have to be replaced as a whole. Will be surprised if you can replace individual bulbs in it.

Have you tried removing it and refitting it to check for loose connections? Apart from that suggestion, best wait for a reply from somebody who actually knows what they are talking about!

Thanks for the posts.Correct Chris it is not the main instrument cluster but the dial you twist to turn on the headlights.
Does anyone know how to remove the headlight dial switch module on the RHS of the steering wheel? Maybe a light/ connection has worked it's way loose.

I just noticed the same thing on mine. Took it apart, but looks to me that there's no bulbs/leds behind there.

You remove it by pressing the dial in, turn it opposite direction an then fiddle the entire unit towards you.

Can someone confirm that it should be lit here?

Yup, should look like this (when the lights are on): Image

Excuse the bad iPhone pic!

Without the lights on, just the symbol on the actual dial-knob (and the pointer dot thingy) are illuminated.

It all dims with the instrument dimmer control as well.

thanks chrisrs6

that is correct i am missing the illuminations from 11 to 2 o'clock - i.e at the topof the dial.

So Keihin, if you have taken your unit apart and found no leds/ bulb.

So does any one here know how the light gets into the unit?
