Cheapest repair/mod ever...

Post by Mrfickle » Fri Sep 02, 2011 8:20 pm

Probably like most people on this board I am a bit obsessive with my rs6 (and my misses would say generally) and also like most people here I have spent plenty on the motor both on repairs/mods and cosmetic (it has been to KDS twice this year alone!)...

So, i thought I should share with you my cheapest (and extremely satisfying) repair which I have just completed...it involved all of 3 minutes labour and that was to replace the rs6 emblem on my steering wheel! Quite a bit of the paint from the original one had worn/been scratched off. Below is a photo of the replacement in situ with the old one next to it. All for £17! I spend more on bloody wheel cleaner!!!

Oh, on that note, anyone know where to get replacement transfers for my calipers? Mine are a bit faded (the red bit behind the RS has gone pink) from over zealous use of Bilberry wheel cleaner...

Get C6 calipers and sell yours to someone upgrading a B5. Plus you'll save money on disks in the future ;)

How much are C6 calipers these days? Do they fit straight on or do you need an apdater or spacers? I might need them with a stage 2 tune :bigblink:

Mine looks like the one you removed, did you get the replacement online or via Audi?

Yup I did this too - got mine a bit cheaper on eBay.de if I remember correctly.

On a connected note and sorry for the slight thread-jack...

Does anyone know a proper way to restore the steering wheel so it's not so shiny? I know I have to do a lot of pick work with the perforations, but how about the leather finish itself?

I have neatly sidestepped this problem by having a 4 spoke MFSW :)

Oh <beep> YES! Purchased. Thanks for the link, this little emblem has been looking up at me and mocking me with its missing paint.

Glad this post has been of some use and we all now have shiny new RS6 steering wheel emblems! My next bit of cosmetic (the RS transfers on the calipers) seems to have migrated to thinking about spending the grand on the C6 brake kit... well, no one ever said ownership was cheap!

Oh, and I am +1 for wanting to know how to "deshine" the steering wheel.

I wonder how that emblem would look on my pullover...

Yep. Done that mod, the pink decals drove me to that particular upgrade, well that and the infamous video of Mooch with his speedo wound on full-lock, then he stomped on his new C6 anchors only to watch the clocks retreat backwards quicker than a Frenchman at the start of a war.
I've since done this little party trick myself with my full C6 brake setup and it's nearly as addictive as accelerating. Freaks the passengers out though.
Just do it mate, besides, it's essential on a C5 running more than just a remap.
As said, cheaper pads and discs too.
