fault codes torque converter

hi
a friend of mine has a c5 rs 6 and is getting the odd bang now and again so i
Vag Com'd it and came up with these codes
p0741 or 17125 torque converter stuck
p0711 or 17095 tranmission fluid temp high sporadic
the cars recently had a new oil cooler and pipes fitted at the stealers,i was thinking maybe they havent topped the fluid correctly or it may need a gearbox oil change?the car doesnt really show any signs of slipping and any help would be appreciated?

Drive at 50mph in 5th on an incline then accelerate (not floor it) smoothly, if the revs jump up 200 or more then the converter is on its way out / slipping. The rev counter should match the speedo and not jump up if the converter is locked. I pinched this from the American RS6 forum so if it's wrong blame them

mine slips and bAngs with no code but I know it's the Tc o. the way out

Nothing to do with all that torque then
I think you deserve an award for destroying a new torque converter in such a quick time / distance

I'm not sure if that's the best way of testing it. If the TC unlocks (as it would normally when the load exceeds a certain point) then you will get that rise in revs.
What you need to know is whether the TCU is asking for the TC to stay closed, but it's slipping anyway. Can't do that without a vagcom.
Amanda, surely you're talking about your old TC? I hope...

Of course, it could be a problem of low ATF. Only one way to find that out.

There are no signs of slipping just a thud when slowing when it gears down?

If they changed the oil cooler and didn't top up the ATF then the gearbox will be low on fluid. That's very naughty of them if that's the case.
Change the ATF and filter. It might help. Or it might make the problem more apparent, depending on what it is and how far gone.
Still, better to know than to not know.

Thanks for the info,how much does a gearbox oil change cost?has anybody had the same symptoms with low oil level or poor Oil quality?

nope my Tc was rebuilt when the engine work was done in march.................... I have bust it again!!!!
Good job I have something very special sat in my boot awaiting fitment

Nearly missed this post..
Could be low transmission fluid. If you're mate is near you (Manchester?) then you're not a million miles away from Grizz at Unit20 in Cheshire (unit20.org). They'd be able to check it for you and top-up/service as necessary. If things have gotten worse since you posted this, then Unit20 also offer a collection service. They have a very good reputation on here.
