Just got back from Lemans, first LM in the 6 (14 in different motors), great for chucking all the stuff in, but for the first time since Ive had it it suddenly felt slow. I followed a few mates down, 911 GT3, Noble and a Vantage, ok on the straight but they were all faster, but round the tight country lanes...well very worrying. It is tricky to slow that weight down...Plus side didnt see another 6 so won on rarity factor. I think it is best suited for the AUTO BAHN or taking on Skylines with dustbin size exhausts....Still love it.

Well you can't cheat physics. A C6 brake upgrade would go a long way to make it better though I think, and you should be able to rocket out of tight corners with the quattro...ESP off shift down with tip mode and nail it halfway the corner and see if anything can keep up!
They're good in a straight line but not blindingly fast...even mapped they will have trouble keeping up with M5's and the like but that's the price you pay for having grip in all conditions where the other cars do not.

OK, according to Ian-C you need to pack:

Freezer, generator, cabling, sound system, stove, tent, events shelter, table, chairs etc etc.

Where exactly in the 911 or Noble did they fit all that??

As one kitchen fitter commented to me as I pulled several bags of cement out of mine "That has to be the fastest builder's van in all Wales, Boyo!!".

Other cars may be marginally faster on the twisties (though it sounds to me like yours needs a check at Unit20/MRC), but when it comes to the practical everyday stuff of lugging loads of gear from A to B frankly I reckon they are unbeatable!

In the end the RS6 is just that - a compromise. It'll struggle to keep up with a Golf on the twisties, never mind a 911 !

Took my avant and it was great, three in the car, with all our gear, and kept up with most things (apart from one of the other guys 911 turbo S - but nothing will keep with that!). Not sure you can compare the 6 to Nobles and Astons, £££'s spent for performance (and practicality) the RS6 has to win

I have to slightly disagree.

I drove down to Le Mans in the 6(albeit with Custom code remap) this year with a mate who has a 56 plate Vantage and while, off the line he was quicker, he struggled to keep up with me a lot of the time, in particular up 1 steep hill when we'd exited a roundabout together to get up it - he even commented on how surprised he was on its performance.

I camped in Maison Blanche and had a 53 plate Mugello Blue Saloon and an 04 Misano Red Avant within a few hundred yards of me but certainly didn't see anyone else on the way there or back.

Appreciate that the 6 is more at home on the Autobahns but it's not bad on the twisties considering its size and weight. I've had mine over 4 years now and it still brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Can't say that about any other car I've previously owned including a 911.

I agree. Plenty of comments on performance of the 6 from the boys in our camp running porsche, AMG, fezzer etc. I think a few were shocked

I was in the red avant. You must have been tucked away, I didn't spot your 6.

Twisties? That depends on the driver. It'll hold a high level of company but you have to remain committed, pick your corners and be willing to provide some left-foot trail braking (C6 brakes help). That said, it's tedious and uninvolving to drive (the GB doesn't help) the beast in this manner, unless there's a reward, like stomping on a porker.
I find there's always shifting weight to consider and it's difficult to confidently link fast road sections together. I'm getting more interested in the B7 RS for this task.

Took my avant this year for the first time and loved it. Previously taken a Noble and Cerbera and have struggled to get all our gear in those. Took a van one year and don't think I got any more in that than the 6 this year!
Full up with all our camping gear, three up and cruising in absolute comfort with the Bose turned up is what these cars are about. Wasn't worried about it breaking down either which was a concern with the TVR. My rear seat passenger was very impressed with the comfort and performance and he drives an Aston. As others have said, rarity value is cool too.

Yeah you had a good spot there and couldn't help but notice the company you were keeping and your 6 was looking in very good nick! We were camping by a couple of tipees a few hundred yards from you and i was just along from a very nice S4 Avant.

Anyway, will keep an eye out for you next year and come and be more sociable and come and say hello!

I hadn't been for a few years and the last time I went we stayed at a hotel in Le Mans itself and before that it was Bleu Nord. The guys I went with stayed in MB the year before last, nearer to where you were this year. The only reason we didn't go last year was that no one wanted to organise it!

I'll bring a cold one or two with me.
