C6 steering wheel in C5

Post by Danrowland » Fri May 27, 2011 8:17 pm

Hi there,

I'm sure this has been covered but can't find it anywhere so apologies in advance.

Does anyone know if a C6 RS6 steering wheel will fit on a C5 RS6 plus?

Thanks!

I did a similar swap in my old b6, pretty straight forward except you have no way of knowing if the airbag will go off. The C5 has a single stage airbag and the C6 has dual stage, there's no way you can use both stages in the C5 so you have to modify the wiring to fire one stage only. Lots of people have done it but also lots more people think it's dangerous. There's 1 recorded crash involving a swap like this and the results weren't good.

yeah, i seen that one on a forum in the US iirc. Didn't look good!

Don't airbags become pretty useless after several years? Or is that rubbish i've read somehwere lol?

Nice one- I had no idea the air bag system was different!

Reckon I'll leave it as it is unless there is a better looking / feeling alternative with no risk..

Cheers,

If you're looking for a more modern look, Virdee can do fancy things with your existing wheel...

Real shame as the C6 wheel is purdee... and you get flappy paddles with radio controls which us poor C5 owners have to do without :boohoo:

Yes, that's the 4 spoke MFSW. That's what I have and I'm very, very please that I have that one and not the 3 spoke with flappy paddles and no radio controls.

I'm surprised none of the electrical bods have come up with a solution for this single to dual stage system. It's the same case for all the audi models from circa 2004 with single stage airbags.

Forget about that. It's ace. Doesn't the 3 spoke do that then?

hazzy dayz charge around £1200 for this.

they say they can get the airbag and buttons on the multi function flat bottom steering wheel working.

£1200 is a bit much for me though.
