Boot not locking
Boot not locking
just noticed tonight that my boot (saloon) is not locking. Key remote is locking all the doors ok but I went back out later to get something out of the boot (without the key) and set the alarm off when I opened it... Don't know how long it's been like that. Any ideas what's wrong?
Re: Boot not locking
Had the same with my avant put the key in the boot and lock it manually then unlock It seems to reset it, worked for me. Been OK ever since.
Re: Boot not locking
I hope that doesn't happen to mine, I've removed my lock!
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Boot not locking
If you turn the key left in the lock then you disengage it from the central locking. Retarded, I know, but it's in the manual.
If you turn it right, you reingage it.
Or it might be the other way round.

Re: Boot not locking
when the boot lid lock is horizontal it disengages it from the central locking system but stays locked - that's what i'm using just now.
In the vertical position it should lock and unlock with the rest of the doors when the remote is pressed.
Unfortunately my lock was in the vertical position and wasn't locking with the remote...

Re: Boot not locking
Can you turn it 180°?

Re: Boot not locking
I had very similar with my avant - didn't do it every time I locked the car, but sometimes would try the boot and found it would open when rest of the car locked.
After faffing about with the manual key position options I felt something give inside the lock
since then it's worked perfectly unless the boot doesn't close fully, in which case the handle won't open it, but the remote will!! Works fine under normal conditions. Only difference is that the handle feels to have less resistence when you pull it than before it broke.
There's definitely something plastic that's parted company as I noticed a rattle and eventually a bit of plastic appeared in the courtesy light fitting.....
Since it still works, and it's an Avant so have options for getting into the boot, I haven't bothered taking the trim off to see exactly what's parted company

Re: Boot not locking
Had a look. The manual says that if the keyslot is vertical, then it's integrated into the central locking system. If it's horizontal then it's locked and not won't open with the central locking.
So this doesn't seem to be your problem.
When you lock the car, do the indicators flash twice?

Re: Boot not locking
Agreed - that's how I'm locking the boot just now.Shoppinit wrote:. If it's horizontal then it's locked and not won't open with the central locking.
If I lock it with the key using the vertical position - clockwise - the alarm arms (one flash) and the doors and boot lock. I can then open doors and boot with the remote,
No, just once. It flashes once when locking with the remote; twice when you open it with the remote...Shoppinit wrote:When you lock the car, do the indicators flash twice?
Re: Boot not locking
when I was closing the boot lid this morning I thought I heard something ratting about inside the boot lid itself. I decided to strip the boot lid down to see if I could find the cause. A few screws and trim clips later I had the liner off but I couldn't find what it was. Pressing the key fob to lock and unlock though I soon saw what was wrong. When you lock the car there's a plunger that shoots out in the lock mechanism but it didn't seem to do anything. Then I noticed there was a plastic bracket that pivots on a pin and it seemed to have a bit broken off the top of it. I guessed the plunger and the bracket should be connected to each other or at least the plunger should hit the bracket which in turn causes the boot lid to lock. I reckoned my chances of buying just that bracket were slim and the only alternative I could see initially was to buy the whole lock assembly.
I managed to get the broken bracket out eventually though and managed a bit of a Heath Robinson repair by extending the bracket by screwing a bit of thin metal to the top of it. Now when the plunger operates it hits the metal and pushed the lock into the lock position. But that didn't work when I opened it. So i drilled a hole in the metal strip and tied the plunger and strip together with a zip cable tie!
So now I have an operational boot lock again - albeit an hour of my time but still a cheap repair!
