just wanted to know your thoughts on this ? anyone had this one before ?
thanks in advance
p.s. is there a way to check the oil level in the gearbox ?

Not had that exact one before, but 'implausable signal' usually means a new sensor/cabling is needed, from my experience...

Wow, you either seriously know your motors or have found a very sorted car. I am only 3 months in to ownership and have spent £4k getting the car sorted so far (non consumables).
Have a 50k service in the next couple of weeks and will be at least a new torque converter (fingers crossed they warranty pays out)! To be fair I should have had mine checked more thoroughly than 2 test drives and a VAG diagnostic check after each run. Heart over head and all that!
Anyhoo I believe to check the gearbox oil you need to get the car warm (not hot) and top up until atf comes out of the drain valve. Not professing to be an expert (apart from on how not to buy a car) but best done on a ramp.
Sure some of the more technically skilled guys will be on soon with some detail

Careful, you do that and you're good for a new box 1000 miles later.
The G93 is a relatively easy job. Except that it's built into the wiring harness. Valve body has to come out.
It'll be messy, but at least the gearbox hasn't got to come out. Clear the fault first and see if it comes back. Sometimes these things have brain farts and never reoccur.

As mentioned I am no expert, was passing on information given to me by the 12 or so gearbox "specialists" I have spoken to about mine. Many claimed to have worked on RS6's but 3 of them claimed to have replaced the gearbox with the engine in? The other said to do the job properly it is engine out!
Sounds like yours may be a simpler fix and as per message above that is not an engine out fix (17 hours book time for engine out)

It can be done without removing the engine

Check out the gearbox threads on rs6.com for proof. Most of the guys on that forum are Yanks and are way in front of us in the slush box deptment. They have specialists that modify the torque converter and gearbox virtually eradicating this RS6 weak point. When my torque converter goes (law of averages is against me) i'm seriously thinking of getting a modded one sent over.

Had a look at ace converters - got from previous post - emailed them and have not come back to me yet. Engine needs to come out of mine anyway as one of the turbos missin a "grub screw"??? Was also told that most require your TC to be sent over to the US to be upgraded and this can take a few weeks.
The gearbox thing has driven me mad, I asked ALOT of people and got tons of recommendations but when I mention the names of firms recommended to other motor traders they had loads of horror stories about shoddy work and corner cutting - also not honouring warranty after repairs fail.
Funny thing is I will take my other car to a local indie and not worry, with the 6 it's sleepless nights all the way!
Also hope the new TC helps on fuel, combined cycle of 17.8mpg at the mo and I am driving like a grandma! I do struggle to not dip the throttle as addicted to that v8 burble at about 2500 rpm!

Let me / us know what ACE say please. I saw the link in the other thread but could see no mention of them selling the upgraded toque converters. TozoM8 on the other forums seems to be the man in the know he even modifies the valve Blocks.

If the VB has been removed it is common the harness get pinched between the VB and casing causing this problem.
The symptom is it shifts into second and goes into limp

it's not necessary to remove either the engine or the tranny - the valve body is in the bottom bit (technical term) remove the sump and voila....
there are apparently a few modifications to the valve body that zf undertook during the model life that can be retro-fitted. i'm trying to find out more information...
