Stuttering and hesitation.

Post by neilc » Thu Nov 04, 2010 2:04 pm

My Brother has a 2004 RS6 saloon. Had it about 3 months and is experiencing hesitation and stuttering. Been on diagnostics which showed MAF sensor fault. Replaced both internal units with genuine Audi parts. But its no better and nothing else on diagnostics. Car has had new cambelt , plugs etc very recently.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

I'm sure there is another component to the MAF set up, sadly I'm damned if I can remember what it's called -

sounds like tired coilpacks

I would scan again and see if there are any misfires. £30 each from Audi x 8

What was done on the service? What plugs were fitted?

Can you post some logs? what are the idle g/s numbers on the Mafs?

The car was serviced by Camberley Audi in July and had a cambelt and major service including plugs etc. Not sure what type. Car is going back on diagnostics this afternoon. Let you know what happens.

Thanks

RS6 don't really suffer from coilpack problems.

Look at the MAFs again, make sure they are seated properly. I'm betting on this. The electrical connectors deteriorate, too. What was the daignostics error code?

Have you got access to a vagcom? Or even a generic ODB2 scanner that can show live engine data?

Could also be a vac leak. When you've got the air filter housing off to check the MAF seating, check all the little vac hoses (and also the master cylinder one.

I've had two replaced, one on each bank. That was the cause of my O2 sensors going bad. At least that's what they told me.
I suspect my O2 failures had more to do with the oil being over filled.

Yeah, the S4 B6 and S6 have terrible problems with the coil packs. The RS6 by comparison has very few problems with them. No more than the usual background noise.

Does it do it under light throttle or when under load (ie low revs, high gear up a hill)

This could be a book leak if the above conditions are correct
