I know, tyres again.......

Post by gooldie » Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:16 am

Don't worry i have done a big search and read loads of different opinions on tyres. but still can't make my own mind up!!!

New 20" wheels will be arriving soon and need to get tyres (255/30/20) ordered up for them checked out all the online tyre sites and have come up with 4 options

Falken 452 £561.55 (camskill)
Dunlop Sport Maxx XL £869.52 (elite)
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric £923.95 (camskill)
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 £963.52 (elite)

Of course if anyone knows where i could get any of them cheaper please let me know. There is a massive jump from the Falkens to even the Dunlops is it worth it?

As mentioned before with this tyre size is the speed/load ratings...none will come up to spec so get the best tyre you can afford....I've got gye f1's on mine.

Normal is 96y I think and the gy are 92y...

All the tyres only have a load rating of 92Y which is slightly lower std but will be absolutely fine as the car is never going to be loaded up

never ever discount a tyre because of hearsay.Vreds will knock spots off GY Assy all day long and i know ive used both.I am currently running the new conti SP5 R01 and they are much better than the contact 3.
Ive tried all the major brands on various cars and GY arent what everyone makes them out to be

See, I completely disagree with the Vreds vs F1s. The 6 was always scratching for grip on the fronts but on the F1s I've never had that problem. The Vreds were amazing in heavy rain though, straight line not laterally but braking into standing water – If doing a VMAX event in heavy reain… I'd have the Vreds. For any other application on the RS6, they’re useless.
F1 is just a better tyre for the 6 IMO.

I've ordered 4 new Michelin PS 3's for my standard 19" wheels.

255/35/19 96Y XL

£985 from Kwik-Fit of all places, supply, fitting, balancing etc and VAT. Apparenly I've got a 25% discount for buying 4 at once and I do trust Kwik Fit enough to fit tyres... they do it all day, every day so what could possibly go wrong?!?!? (famous last words?).

Getting them fitted on Sunday so will be able to compare these with the Continentals I currently have.

Who would have thought it phoned kwik fit and asked if they had a 4 for the price of 3 offer and was told it was on the bridgestines but since they didn't make them in that size he could shift the offer to another brand. Said that I would prefer goodyears and with minimal persuasion got them for £900 fully fitted!!
