Urgetn Help Needed please !!

Hi,

Got in the car tonight, started up, indicate left - nothing - indicate right nothing, no windscreen wipers, no wash wipe, no rear wash wipe, Aircon whilst appears to function (on the control panel) doesn't actually work. Also the noise (you know the whining aircon noise we all comment on and goes away when you put it into econ mode) isn't there any more.

everything else seems fine, had this once before thought it was my mind playing trick a few months back, but stopping and restarting after a short shopping break - all ok again.

Indicators do work as they flash when the alarm is set via remote control.

ANY IDEAS - I'm praying it doesnt rain, or I get followed by the old bill as no indicators is real problem !!!

HELP !!!

Checked your fuses? Not sure how many different circuits you have but could be a primary fuse fault or if there's a fault with a plug in the loom.
I would think vag-com will sort it out pretty quick.
Where are you based?

That's odd.

Presumably you've checked the fuses?

Is your footwell wet? The CAN gateway is under the carpet and can go screwy if it gets wet, affected all sorts of seemingly unconnected things.

Other than the air con, everything seems to be on the steering column. I wonder if you've got a fault with the steering column module. Does your cruise work? DOesn't explain the aircon though.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies I have checked the obvious fuses, although it was (did) seem intermittent, I will check again though, I dont have a VAG COMM and I am in Telford - Shropshire during the week, and near peterborough at the weekend.

Any other fuses / which should I check more closely ? If so where are they ?

Where is the CAN Gateway, is that the one under the passenger carpet ?

Guess a visit to stafford Audi next week might be on the cards!

Any other ideas , anyone ????

Shame your not telford way over the weekend. I'm only in dudley and may have been able to get over to you.
Think the rs6 has a known problem of the passanger carpet getting wet. Might be worth having a look under there to see if there is any sign of water.

Do people still use indicators? I thought I was the only one.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies, Unit 20 is where I would try to make for, however they have come back on (everything!!), and seem fine.

I made to Peterborough Audi this morning and they ran a check and no faults were found (!!!), and no charge, so it didn't store any faults. :(

I am aware of the problem with the carpet getting wet due to the rear wash wipe. when I was last at unit 20 Grizz checked and fixed the non working rear wash wipe, and the carpet was bone dry, I suppose it could have got wet before I got the car, although why would it start up again. :?

Sounds like a dodgy earth or something but difficult to diagnose.

BTW just in case anybody have the part number for the CAN unit in the passenger foot-well as I might get one just in case ("!).

Thanks again

Chris.

Back again guys

Same again, no wipers, aircon, indicators, everything else works.....

Getting desperate now, Audi cant find anything on the computer, I think more and more a dodgy earth / connection.

Anyone got any idea where to look next ? I'll have a look at the passenger footwell CAN, but didn't find anything last time!!

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme of reason to it coming back on, I can be simply driving down the road and the indicator / Windscreen wiper will start, (I leave the wiper on intermittent so I know when it comes back).

The problem is - its working again now !!!!

HELPPPPPP.....

Does sound like a dodgy earth.

Although could be a faulty column switch. You could try changing that. Gets expensive when you start changing bits at random though :(

could this be the switch for the emergency warning indicators (triangle) in the middle of the dash.
i believe it has a direct link to the battery and a lot of other functions are powered after it on the same live.

I second the warning triangle switch, my mom had same problem on her passat, replaced switch( it contains relay) all indicators and suppers worked again, it a common fault on Vw golfs and passats and audi I guess.

Thanks guys, update.

Everything is off again (!!!)

Thanks for the advice on the warning triangle, I have tried it and it does work ie it works the indicators as it should, would this be the case if it was faulty ?

Any ideas how to change it ? - any idea for a partnumber ?

I suppose (being positive) its easy to find something that doesn't work than something intermittent :?

I will give stafford Audi a call tomorrow, and unit 20 to see if they have a space in the next week or so.

Keep your fingers crossed for no rain / bobbies this week.

BTW checked the passenger floorwell, dry as a bone, everything else CAN etc. seems fine, also had a look for dodgy earths but everyting looks OK, I haven't however checked in the ECU area under the bonnet, as I didn't want to undo the black box without more advice.

Any other ideas gratefully recevied, very puzzling, just to reconfirm, when it happens, no windscreen or rear wipers, wash wipe, aircon, indicators - everything else works, including cruise, windows, locks, lights radio, sunroof.

Also anybody have a wiring diagram for the RS6 ??

Cheers

I would try the Hazard relay as mentioned above as its about £30.00 on ebay and it's one of those things that if it hasn't already failed is waiting to happen.

This way if You change it and it fixes the problem You have a good result.

If it doesn't fix it at least You have a spare for when the relay finally does blow, £30.00 is not a lot of dosh and it's reasonably easy to DIY instructions are somewhere on the forum.
