Whose running 20 inch rims ? help please.
Hi,
To all those who are running 20 inch rims .... what size tyre are your guys running ?
I have been running 255 / 30 / R 20 (same width but not the 35 profile that came on the 19 inch rims).
However .... I have noticed the Load rating on these tyres is 92XL. The standard 19 inch 35 profile tyres have a 96 XL. Recently had a blow out and was wondering if this was the potential cause ? The technical terminology states that 92 rated tyre can carry upto 630kg, and 96 carries 710kg. Is this difference big enough to be concerned about ?
Also, anyone here using 265/30/20 which have a 94 load rating?
Thanks all.

You must either match or exceed both the load and speed ratings of your tyres against the oem specifications otherwise your insurance will void !
Not to mention how dangerous it is on such a heavy car like the rs6...

Understand what your saying, but have 20 inch ABT rims (which at one stage Audi was supplying themselves as dealer mod) and they have always had 255/30 profiles on. The rims have a wider offset too so that might make it tricky for me to put wider rubber on. The thing is, all 255/30 seem to be rated at 92 from what I can see. So, question is, what are other people running on their 20s .... I know a few on this forum are so speak up please! Thanks.

We have just bought our car with 20s and had a problem on the first drive home, with Falken tyres.
We noticed a vibration not present on the test drives. Anyway we limped it over to our usual specialist garage who have strongly advised us to go to the higher rated tyres, for exactly the reasons described above.

Just having a look on camskill website and all 255/30/20 are rated at 92.I certainly have experienced no problems whatsoever with the tyres on my car and suspect your vibrating issue is probably more due to a geometry issue

I agree with DAylward, the vibration is more likely to be geometry or simple wheel balancing. I never had vibrating issues although my experience is only running on Continental Sport Contacts.
DAylward ... what brand of tyre are you using ? Thanks.

The new SportContact 5P have an Audi specific version (RO1). According to this website, these 20s are for RS4, RS6, and R8s. Thinking of ordering a pair ....

The vibration was due to a rear tyre in the process of coming apart; we should have looked closer when picking the car up. When we test drove the car it was OK, no vibration, when we picked it up, we drove about a mile to the local petrol station to fill up. Noticed that the the left rear looked low, inflated it from 9psi(!) and continued home but the vibration started as soon as we got on the dual carriageway. I guess the previous owner must have clipped something on the inner edge either causing a slow puncture or maybe it already had one.
New tyre, no vibration.
Anyway, that wasn't the subject of this post so sorry for the diversion.
Our tuner who runs an RS6 Plus advises that due to the weight & braking capacity of the car, for safety we should use the higher rated tyres (bear in mind that when new, Audi supplied this spec not something lower). We are in the process of deciding whether we chuck away 2 new Falkens & 2 part-worns to spend a load on Michelins. I guess we'll get some value for money out of the old ones first.

Supraholic .... right I see. Yes, I had a similar situation. If you drive with very low pressures for even a short distance, this can permanently damage the tyre. Happened to me too and caused my tyre to de-laminate.
I also agree, we should use the highest rated tyre, but the problem I have recently found out is that if you are using 20 inch rims, then the only recommended tyre that will fit on the C5 RS6 is one with a 30 profile. This leaves you with the dilemma that (as far as I can tell) all 255/30/R20 tyres come with a maximum load of 92. I just cant seem to find a brand yet with a higher load bearing.
Further, on the C6, the standard tyre is a 275/35/R20 with a load bearing of 102!
