Which drive day experience is best?

Post by C6NVS » Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:58 pm

With a B'day coming up, the wife wants to send me out to 'safely" get the 'need for speed' out of my system.

What's the verdict on the best one to go for?

Budget is <£150 (understand this will be a shorter excursion circa <1hr)
Weekday preference
Renowned race circuit preference, but not essential (Silverstone/Brans Hatch etc)
Anything fast, but road going supercar preferred (Fez, lambo, R8 etc)

Sorry mod if this should be posted elsewhere.

watch out, I got for my bday driveme.net R8 & Lambo experience

was rubbish

the "track" was a straight pile of tarmac which you went up, turned, came back.

Got about 5 mins in each car and only did 3rd & 4th gear

I had more of a driving experience in the lanes on the way home

This is not with in your budget but worth sharing around. http://www.palmersport.com/gift-vouchers.aspx

If it's a big birthday then maybe the wife may up the budget to cover.....

Happy birthday and good luck in your hunt.

The palmer sport is the best by far. Pricey but it is good value. Have heard of many less than £500 that leave people very unimpressed.

This has been my best day so far - http://www.dreamcarhire.com/experience_ ... arexp.html

Again very pricey but worth every penny.

Some lame videos - not up to Mooches standards - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eFKLKw2hcs Jag XKR

F430 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DXdy1cTcY8

have loads more videos but most I can't post for reasons!!

I used to be a track day nut but a few years ago I did a day course at Silverstone Rally in Mk2 escort rally cars and I'd love to do it again. It was brilliant and you learn a lot.

Not sure how much it was as it was a 30th birthday present from my mum!

Full day with lunch and plenty of driving. If you are decent enough you get to do a mini stage at the end of the day with the instructor shouting out the notes as you go.

Bruntingthorpe will let you get up to around 160mph down the runway, with a couple of chicanes, and some fast corners.
They've generally got the F430's, Lambo's, Aston Martin's, R8 etc...
Can't be sure of the costs.

Thanks for the ideas.
Thanks DK, I will stay away.

I have actually done the Palmer day through a corporate event, and have to agree that it is very good (though probably priced out of reach for the individual enthusiast).

I think you are all correct, probably best to save the pennies and do a whole day, rather than be disappointed by three laps. I'll check out the suggestions provided (rally does sound good).

Thanks again.
