Running costs...

I've some big bills coming up (servicing, cam belt change again, plus one or two other bits and pieces) and by now I was hoping I would have been able to afford to change the DRC over to coilovers and maybe even get to some mods. But instead I'm considering continued ownership!

I keep a pretty detailed record of everything that's been spent on the car (see attached sanitised spreadsheet) and since I got the car in 2008 I've done almost 35,000 miles but (not including petrol) it's cost me around £14k just to keep it on the road - that's not including a couple of big bills that went direct to the warranty company that I never saw. On the one hand £2.50 per mile (excluding depreciation plus another £3.5k+ for fuel) doesn't sound too bad but equally the car has now cost me more than my first house!

I'm sure I'll drive it again tomorrow and change my mind but hopefully the attached spreadsheet might help anyone contemplating buying an RS6 to think carefully about what they might be letting themselves in for!

My last RS6 had £9k spent in under 3 months (gearbox, drc parts, rad fans, climate panel + more).

My current RS6 is at around £3k and counting.......all of which was done under Audi warranty.

It may be a hassle for some but for me it's a godsend!

You missed the point !

It costs a bomb to run these cars, warranty is irrelevant as it won't pay for any consumables and someone still has to pay for the warranty in the first place...

A proper warranty takes alot of the pressure off as most who've utlised it can confirm - the £1700 required to renew compared with the potential bills is small fish.

Consumables are more than your average Passat but then this aint no 1.8T

Bottom line, it's a mutha of a car to run and keep on form BUT the blow can be cushioned without taking away the fun

Personally I wouldn't touch one without a proper audi warranty

Im not paying those ridiculous prices and my B7 will be long gone before the warranty is up

...if you can even get a decent warranty. Mine's is due for renewal in May and would quite happily pay double last year's premium but from what I've read I may not even be offered that chance.

Having looked at the spreadsheet it doesnt actually look too bad. The warranty obviously covering all major repair bills.....as noted above....it pays to have a decent warranty on these beasts.

...just out of interest, does anyone know the car before me? It had 5 owners and some of them in very quick succession which always intrigued me.
