I replaced all four tyres on the car last June and have done about 9k miles since then. At the weekend I got a second puncture in one of the rear tyres so have to replace it. I'd normally replace both sides at the same time but the other tyre still looks really good with 5.5 to 6mm across the whole tyre. Thoughts? 1 tyre or two?

it's a different tyre make and tread depth again...

I've had the car 2 years next month and I think I've 6 (maybe 7) punctures!

Thats alot of punctures over 2 years. Where are you driving.........over cactus plantations?

You need to get some tyre insurance! The tyres are really fragile at this size, I've learned from experience

I would be unhappy about having 2 different amounts of wear across an axle. In fact, it's the case right now because of a puncture and I'm not happy about it at all. There's about 1mm of difference (fronts) and while this is completely unnoticeable and has no apparent effect, I'm not comfortable with it - I'm just anal. I am going to put 2 new ones on, and keep the worns until I get a complete axle set that's close in terms of wear.

You don't want want diff sized tyres on our car because it causes wear on the diff etc. Just been doing some calcs.

If your tyres are 1mm different between across your axle, the difference in rolling radius is only 6mm. Therefore the smaller wheel will turn move revs per mile. But at 1mm, it would take half a mile for the smaller wheel to complete 1 more rev than the larger one. I would think that with corners etc that would have a far greater affect?

Why would it cause more wear on the diff? It would be like driving very very slightly left - this wouldn't wear the diff.

I can see the argument for different radii front to back, but not left to right.

But thats the only difference that having tyres 1mm different across an axle would make, or front to back

I had 5mm diff front to back when I just put new ones on rear. Under full acceleration the traction control light would flash occasionally. Never happened again once replaced the front as well. Just an observation. Might not be related.

That would be right as the brain would see the speed difference that poinr as losing traction, and limit power to the samller wheel

i know! they've all been either nails or screws - i've no evidence but can't help thinking someone's got it in for me.
