Just wanted to say hi and set out my plan for you all to comment on and help a noob out.

I been trawling through the site and hopefully increased my knowledge and will try not to ask any daft or obvious questions!

I'm currently on the look out for a RS6 saloon, realistically it will probably be after Xmas before I get it. I have a couple of quick questions I would appreciate your thoughts on -

1. Is it better to go for a newer car with higher mileage or an older one with lower mileage - eg 52 with 40K or 04 with 60K? I won't buy without excellent history.
2. If I get a car with a warranty but not an Audi warranty, should I let the warranty run down and then go Audi or just bite the bullet and go straight for an Audi one and bin the indy?

I've already decided I'm going to go and see MRC to get some work done, but having done my homework on here I realise that a health check is the first priority and then a tune up. So what do you think of this plan -

1. Buy car - easy one that!
2. Go see MRC for health check
3. Go to Surrey RR and get tune/RR read-out
4. MRC for Stage 2 upgrade
5. Back to Surrey RR for a big smile on my face.
or
1,2&3 as above then
4. Stage 1 upgrade and bin the DRC and get some proper suspension (not sure which yet, need to research more - advice welcome)
5. Stage 2 upgrade further down the road when I've saved some more cash!

Are 2&3 in the right order?

I'd look no further than http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... c&start=15 - a car that's been known and loved here on the forum by an owner who knows his stuff - c/w Audi warranty and the MRC healthcheck already done!

You don't say what you are moving from, or what kind of mileage/driving you are doing so hard to say what order to do things in. But do remember that once you start heavily modding the warranty will get a bit thin.

Pretty sure David's car is still on DRC but it was done earlier in year so should be good for at least another couple of years.

I'm moving on from a CLK430 (bought as a stop gap, ended up keeping it for 2 years! - not a bad car, but not really smile inducing) - that replaced an E46 M3 - so, yeah, I've really been absorbed by the dark side; I did have a A4 1.8T some years ago so I'm not all bad. I only drive about 9k a year, my commute is pretty short and I do runs up the M40 for football matches, which is good for stretching the cars legs.

I have been pondering that black RS6, to be honest its the 95k which is niggling at me - absolutely no offence to the owner I've read so much about it on here I know its highly thought of. I think there is another member on here with a 66k Mug blue for sale too. Though I may be wrong about that.

Ash, to have an Audi warranty put on a car that doesnt have it will be around £2k !

my car has already had MRC ecu and tcu map (circa £800)

It will be mechanically faultless as checked by MRC on Saturday.

The mileage issue is a personal one IMO, fully appreciate what your saying but watch the top gear episode where Clarkson reviews the RS 6, he says its the best built car on the market (at the time)

Hey Ash, hopefully David won't mind me saying, but his car has has been very well looked after; first owner was a Doctor in the NW for a year or so he traded it for an A8 unbelieveably, I was second owner and owned for about 3 years sold it for a 6 from the dark side, no expense spared and meticulously maintained inside and out... no kids, pets or smokers. I am biased of course but at least its got a rock solid history record.

#Good luck and welcome to the big grins club. Incredible that you can get an RS6 for this kind of money now... makes my eyes water with the depreciation I experienced, but it was worth every penny and more. Would not hesitate to do it over again!!

Hi Steve, thanks for the input - this is either one helluva car or you lot are thick as thieves and Beadle is gonna come out smiling as the bi-turbos jump out of the bonnet!

I'll be hanging around here whatever I buy so I look forward to discussing this uber-car with you chaps.

Mine's on 105.5K and going like a train - well not really like a train - much faster and smoother! Fully loaded with daughters gear from uni, 3 figures through the twisty bits (an a private road naturally) - it's a truly awesome car!

Just take a read through the posts by SteveH and David to get a clear picture of how well that car has been loved and cared for (well excluding Steve's "dirty" pics!!

back on topic, when looking, beware of tyres/brakes and cambelt....if these need doing they will easily be £1 - £3k
Warranty is preferred, even just for initial peace of mind - but difficult to come by, Warranty Direct no longer cover them
DRC is prone to failure - so make sure its covered, or replaced
Gearbox seems to be the other weak link, so make sure its been serviced (like mine )

Other than that, these cars a pretty much bullet proof

in the time iv been on this forum, whislt there are always niggly faults, they are no more than any other car

I had an two S4's and you couldnt drive 10 yards without one of the bloody coil packs failing !
