MAF's

When people are changing their MAF's what has been the symptoms?

I keep getting the error around secondary airbanks. Had some vacuum hoses replaced and a valve but the light has come on yet again!

Getting very annoying and I can feel the car is under performing.

Garage can't fit the car in this week so can't even get the error code checked.

The only practical way to test the MAFs is with a vagcom if you've got one. I can't see how a problem with the MAF would cause a problem with the secondary air injection system. I'm not saying it's impossible though!

You could unplug the MAFs, but that would put you in limp home mode. THe problem is, it sounds like you're already in limp home mode. However, limp home mode might be slightly more stable than a situation where the MAFs are broken and sending wrong values to the ECU.

Otherwise, take it to MRC and get them to turn off the secondary air system :) It's only there to reduce cold start emissions, and let's be honest, when you buy an RS6 you kinda throw environmental caution to the wind!

Had mine changed recently following a healthcheck. failing MAF's seem to throw up a number of seemingly unrelated codes but, once they'd been changed, they went away. Maybe best to try and get a VAGCOM done and share the results with one of the RS6 specialists.

Good luck with it.

Hmm... How would one go about doing that.... Sounds interesting. Less "used air" going around in the cars "lungs"...

It's just programming the ECU to ignore certain faults. Some tuners will turn off certain fault codes that their map would trigger, for example. I'm pretty sure that if anyone can do it, it will be Minhea at MRC.

The secondary air systems sends air into the exhaust to help burn up any remaining hydrocarbons, I believe. So as far as I can tell it's utterly useless to us :)
