On my previous car (C5 S6 2000) there was a toggle switch next to the interior dimmer to adjust the beam of my headlights.
I now have a C5 03 RS6 and that function is NOT there, I would have thought on an RS this would have been absolutely minimum spec?

Why would a previous customer remove it? And would Audi really manufacture a car without that adjustment setting??

Xenons are self levelling based on sensors by the 2 near side wheels. To change height you need to use something like VCDS (VAG-COM) to set them into maintenance mode (or similar) then they can be adjusted to the right height. Hence no manual control is required.

Is it a HID thing, HID lights are supposed to have auto levelling, our lights are hid aren't they?

It has been intentionally left blank as the headlights automatically adjust on all cars with Xenons from factory.
If your beam is out of alignment, then it needs to be manually adjusted on the headlamp itself.

Auto leveling?!?! How does it work? is it working all the time as you drive keeping your lights from annoying other people? when i turn the lights on you can see the beam shift upwards!

Is it auto range finding or auto leveling??

There are sensors on the control arms to tell the car how level it is (or isn't).

Nice one lads all very helpful info here. Thanks for the tips, Im going to get her to MOT centre and see if they can do a quick allignment. They are seriously too low and not moving when driving as they should if auto...Sensors must be up the wazoo!

Sounds like the system hasn't been set up correctly marb1es. Quick question but do you still have DRC?

Also, what can happen - if care isn't taken when changing the suspension - is that the lever can pop round the other side. If you see what I mean.

Be careful in basic settings. When you go from group 1 to 2 in xenon range, you are telling the car to learn the new position.

I think your car could have a broken control arm then - if either one is broken then the lights have an emergency "default" to the lowest - so at least you are not dazzling other road users if the system is faulty - I could be wrong but that's what I think it is.

So - I think the MOT station will not be the correct option - you need to find out which (or maybe both) arms need replacing, and then it should work?
