Faulty Indicators

I've asked in the electrical section but no reply as yet.
Indicator comes on but sometimes has a rapid 2 or 3 clicks during the flashing cycle. And sometime just stops altogether. Affects both left and right.
I'm presuming this isnt a bulb problem as both sides.
Had a quick web search. Is it correct that the flasher relay is part of the hazard switch as I could'nt find a definative answer to the locaiton of the relay?

OK. Cheers guys. I am going to have to go to Audi in the morning as I need it urgently. It got worse on the way home was having to switch it on and off using the stalk manually to indicate as it would just go off after about 2 flashes!!!!
Sods law it wont be in stock!!!!
Do you know if its the same as a '51 A4 B6 one as I can rob it from my A4 for the time being?

answered my own question - no the one off an a4 doesnt fit - nothing like it!!! but its def the hazzard switch - thanks Grizz. If I squeeze the unit the indicator works properly until I let go. I stripped it down and cleaned with electrical cleaner but still the same so prob just faulty!! So, until I get a new one its just hanging out of the console and I just need to squeeze it when I want to turn!!!!!!

Funny, mine does the opposite sometimes. After cancelling the indicators the unit appears to click at about double speed but no lights come on. It's intermittant though.......similar fault I guess.

This seems to be a prob on all C5s. Mine went a year ago. Glad you've fixed it.

How do you gain access to this?

It turned out to be the hazzard switch, as Grizz told me (thanks again). Was £24.62 inc VAT from Audi.
Prise off the trim panel around the centre console switches - I just used a flat blade screwdriver and gently prised each side away (there are 6 clips - 3 top and 3 bottom). The Hazzard switch pulls out, with a bit of fiddling. It doesnt pull out fully but just enough to unclip the harness connector at the back. An extra cm of wire would have helped. Clip the new one on, replace the trim (bit fiddly to get the top of the trim back in under the dashboard trim) and that was it.

Thanks for the advice - when you say 3 clips each side is that left and right sides or top and bottom. Just dont want to crack that lovely piece of carbon fibre???

As jd_hants said it's 3 at the top and 3 at the bottom, be gentle or you will damage either the trim or the surround. The unit itself isn't as small as you may think, and it's tight. You can use the screwdriver to prise it forward, again being careful.

Alex, that's one I owe you you!

Anal indeed.... grumble.

Mine's just gone up the spout, too. Would removing the headunit help get at the switch?

Shoppinit, not sure why you would need to as long as you are careful?
Get the surround off and pry the unit out gently (or use pliers), just don't damage the surrounding trim (pad it if required).

Ok thanks. I'll give it a try. I'm just paranoid about damaging the trim. I just look at the procedure. Looks like there are some recessed slots to put a small flat blade screwdriver in. Do you prise the bottom out first?

I can't remember, I don't think it matters though.
