RS6 Brake pads and disks

Post by corkey » Fri Aug 28, 2009 7:23 pm

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how long front disks should last before they need replacing ?. My 04 had new disks and pads at 17,000 three years ago. Since then the car has only covered around 12,000 miles ?.

Also - roughly how much will new front disks and pads cost .

Thanks :?:

Impossible to say. Depends on how you drive. New disks and pads will probably last you a day if you're lucky on the track. Or if you drive like a grandma, they might last you 30000 miles or more.

In terms of cost, have a look at this:

I'm still trying to find out if the Phaeton front disks are a straight swap. Anyone?

Ask Grizz. But as far as i can remember there are no alternatives to the OEM ones. Out of interest roughly how long do pads last?

Sorry. That was a bit of a, 'how long is a piece of string?' question.

When I used the car every day I was getting:
OEM front pads 10,000 miles, OEM front rotors 20,000, give or take a mile or two thousand...ish. :)

You can easily eat a set of pads (discs as well) in a day on track (from experience), Stock OEMs are not suited for track abuse as they get too hot and can boil stock fluid. Need extra cooling (Cooling ducts), bigger heatsinks (e.g. C6 discs if budget allows) and fresh fluid every time. I use ATE super blue.

Thanks for the advice, I guess that's the cost of 'enthusiastic' driving. Looks like I'm off to Audi in the morning $$$$..

Excuse my ignorance: EBC RED, SUPER BLUE (???). Are these everyday pads or specifically just for track? i.e. do they require heating up, so generally they are not much good until they are hot. or are they good as allrounders too?
