Post by AlexJ » Thu Aug 20, 2009 6:24 pm

I know i should be posting this in the For Sale/Wanted section, but has anyone got a set of crossbars for my Avant i can borrow/hire....Someone has lent me a topbox for my camping trip and as big as our '6' is i need a bit more luggage space with wife, 2 kids etc...

I know i am probaly being tight but can't warrant buying some for one trip!!!

I've been thinking about getting a set for a while but am never sure which ones to go for?

From what I understand the Thule aero seem to be the best looking, best quality etc is this the case?

What about the Audi stuff is it any use, which looks better with regards to overhangs etc?

Are any of them easier / harder to fit / remove?

I've had the aero bars for about 3 years and they were great. On a long run I'd still take them off if I wasnt using them, regardless of their profile. No point worsening the cd.

However, coz I lost them, I went for the cheaper Halfords one as a quick replacement, and have to say their absolutely fine. A little fiddly, but they absolutely do the job with the same weight rating, for half the price. Depends whether you want form or function... Oh and you can get the locking mechanism for the halfords one (not included, but are included with the Thule).

Does any one know the model number of the Thule bars and other parts needed off hand?

I looked on a few sites but never seem to be ablr to convince myself I'm looking at the right thing

Does the Thule T bar system make it easier to fir bike racks etc?

Just back from Halfrauds

Thule Footpack 757 £75.99

Thule Load Bars 761 £27.99

Bought the thule ones simply because although the other ones were good value for £75.00 you had to add another £19.99 for locks...

Question about mounting the top box on the bars, i have bolted it to the bars in the the furthest holes at either end of the top box but is the top box better towards the rear of the car or nearer the windscreen???

Still confused,

So is the correct pack for the Aero bars861 with pack 775

and the normal bars, 761 with foot pack 757 ?

Are the Audi bars, any different / better worse?

No idea... How much variation can there be with all these bars?? They're just bars!
