Servicing

For my 70000 mile service, Audi are quoting me labour time of:

1.3 hours to change plugs
1.5 hours to change the coolant
1.4 hours to change the ATF (inc filter)
2.5 hours to service: change oil, air filter, pollen filter

Some of those sound like quite a lot. Especially the plugs and coolant.

Parts are expensive for the plugs, too. I'll be doing that myself, methinks.

ATF sounds reasonable.

I think the 2.5 for the servicing sounds like a lot, but when you look at the Audi list of things to do it's not. Having said that, I'm willing to bet they don't do half the stuff they're supposed to (grease sunroof tracks, etc).

Does anyone have any opinions on these?

Before anyone suggests it, if I could take it to Grizz or MRC then I would. Sadly Audi is the only option :(

Also... is VW507.00 the right spec for the oil? (Where's the trust, eh? )

I was quoted by Quattronics yesterday of 2 hours labour plus the cost of parts for a mojor service. Genuine parts will be used. I'm waiting for a price, but I've been VERY impressed by their service so far, so there's a good chance I'll be going there in 4000 miles for ay major service. Lincoln Audi quoted me £699 yesterday! Not a chance ;)

For a starter you will be apying Audi's rate of £110.00 per hour for labour, plus their 75% mark up on bits. Its called RS6 tax.........

7 hours for all that lot is bollox.

In the same time grizz (i know you cant get to him) did cam belt, tensioners, pulleys stat and water pump. 50k service, brake pads allround and fitted a milltek with decatted DP's..............And most of the time he was supplying me with tea and Dolly Partons baps......

Do all the bits yourself bar oil change.
Take a bottle of oil in to Audi, ask them to do an oil change.
Pay 40 quid, and get your book stamped...

= FASH.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll end up doing. Annoying though.

Is it worth flushing the coolant and brakes. I'm a bit reluctant because everything is working nicely and I can see them cocking it up.

If you're happy with them how they are, then no point changing them.
Brake fluid interval is usually 30k.

Yeah. the brake fluid isn't that expensive, but how can it take 90 minutes to change the coolant?

The big question is ATF or not...

Also, the VW507.00 spec seems to refer to diesel engines?!

I tried that. They basically said they were happy for me to go elsewhere.

Problem is, the only places near me are Audi dealers and all 3 of them are owned by the same person. The nearest independant specialist is about 500 miles away so it looks like I'm screwed.

I don't understand how 8 litres of oil can cost £170 unless it's made from fairy dust.

I knew they were taking the piss.

What's good to use then? Other than synta Gold which isn't available where I live.

No synta is available. It'd have to be main stream stuff. I'm sure I saw a list of VW507.00 oils somewhere, but I can't find it anymore.
