2nd Camblet Change Question - Audi CS say every 60k / 5yrs

Post by HYFR » Tue Jun 02, 2009 1:28 pm

hi guys,

Hopefully picking up another RS 6 tomorrow. Quick question on cambelt.

I have searched and there is a similar thread, but I just wanted to get an uptodate view and see if anyone can share similar experiences

Just called Audi CS who say the cambelt interval is 60k or 5 yrs.

The RS6 im picking up had it done at 44k. So I would plan to get it done on the 100k service (that ones gonna hurt£$!)

Anyone think this would be unwise. . . ?

Appreciate anyone who's up to 100k sharing when they have had their 2nd change

Also, its got an all component Audi warranty, and so should it go before 60k/5 yrs, will I have any right to claim ?

David, I personally would not leave it 60k between changes, I would recommend 40k max.

Even then if I were to buy an RS6 that had the belt changed 20-30k miles ago I would do it again to be safe.

Please remember to replace all the tensioners, rollers, damper, water pump and thermotwat as well.

Can anyone advise if getting it done by the master (Grizz) will impact the Audi warranty at all ?

There has been lots of threads on this - but I'm pretty sure the general view is 40K, not 60K for the belt - certainly that's what Camberley recommended and they are generally pretty reliable.

Yes, I've read all the threads! So why are Audi CS saying 60k ?

Even in all the threds people who have called Audi CS have been told 60k or 3 years . . . has anyone every thought the dealers have been saying 40k to get more money out of you or is that just wishful thinking !

Im not averse to getting it done early, just want some peace of mind it doesnt need doing yesterday

You are one crazy guy David!

You change cars more often than I go on a diet!

Good to hear you're gonna be back in a '6!

Re: The cambelt. I can only refer you back to my previous posts on the subject whereby Grizz gave me a bit of a ticking off for even contemplating postponing the change. Quoting 10k if the engine went pop!

My car is still just a whisker under 20k miles but is now 5 years old, so I really need to get mine done - but just can't afford it right now!  :? :boohoo:

All parts have a 2 year warranty. As all the parts are Genuine there is no problem with the warranty,

2nd cambelt change

Post by mikebrown » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:43 pm

My 2004 car has just completed 57000kms (35000miles) and the cambelt is being done next week. Audi SA recommends 100000kms (60000miles)or 4 years whichever is first. Fortunately as the car is still covered under Audi Freeway Plan there is no cost to me.

40k all day long... from someone who's had two previous cambelt failures, it aint worth the risk.

it's definatly 40k not 60k, some audi dealerships seriously don't have a clue!!! You ask any reputable specialists and they will tell you 40k, it's actually written in the service history book that audi provide with the vehicle soo how can they say it's every 60k??

What I heard from my (Swedish & Finnish) Audi workshops was that the parts have been upgraded(?) and thus the service interval has been legthened. I don't know if this is bullsh** or not, but mine has full Audi service history, I tend to rely on their word on the subject, since in the Nordic countries they are responsible if the worst happens.

Its not a question of opinion, the service schedule says 40k miles, mine was done at 29k and now the car has 49k on it. I will get mine done again at the next service just for peace of mind. Same as the oil, just had a change despite the fact its only just been done 4 months ago. Every car I own I get it changed 3k minimum! It jst depends on how far you want to push the envelope?

If your car is under warranty and you have followed the service schedule then you have nothing to worry! Official interval is now 60k.

or if you want to push it at all !!

Yes I think official Audi view is now 60k or 5 years, based on the fact there was an uprated part from 2004 onwards . . . .

Im gonna get it done anyhow as it gonna need doing it some point soon.
