Would appreciate some thoughts on this problem. Get my car back yesterday after it was stolen fully repaired and good as "new". Been to Audi for a full health check (engine,brakes,suspension etc) and they passed it as having no problems. Picked it up from the insurance people and drove it 25 miles very sensibly with no problems (in fact felt really sorted and great to drive). Filled with petrol and decided to give it some hard acceleration in 2nd up the road. After about 100m the engine went into safe mode and loads of warning lights came on. Pulled over with engine still idling and the main warnings were the big red circle with exclamation mark and the yellow battery light with the gear selector numbers all showing in a red block. The temp illumination flickered on and then went off as did the screen of the sat nav. Got it recovered to Audi who are now saying the battery voltage dropped causing the problem and a new battery will fix it (£300). The question is, does this sound feasible or could there be more serious problems? Unfortunately all the repair centre/insurer can do is listen to Audi and go from what they say and I am concerned incase there is a more serious issue.

I see no one's answered, but my two pence is don't trust the dealer network. Get her over to MRC or Unit 20.

It could easily be as simple as a poor / loose earth or electrical connection, check the battery leads are tight and or any other under bonnet earths and connections. I don't see why a battery should fail under acceleration unless it is very low on electrolyte.

+1. Doesn't sound likely that it's the battery. They work or they don't (or melt ). I'd defintely check the earth straps. Coudl be some useful DTCs stored after a failure like that. Can you check it on the vagcom?

I now have the car back and it seems to be running fine. Not only did Audi decide to replace the battery but at the last minute they decided it needed a new alternator (£1000) at the same time..... Luckily the insurance company have picked up the bill.

Same symptoms as mine last summer ... needed a new alternator.

Looks like the alternators are a bit weak on the RS6. Mine's had one too.

I test drove a RS6 ABT that was at the dealer for several months gathering dust. First of all the ABS light came on, radio died then all warning lights came on, then it stalled when coming to a roundabout, then effectively bump started itself (didn't know auto boxes could do that!) then it limped back to the dealer in safe mode. The dealer said it was low voltage on the battery but I never bought it to find out!

Just make sure they havnt upset the I/cooler, hoses etc whilst doing the alternator. I know from experience at xmas.
