Cost of running a RS6+ Discuss

Post by deanobeano » Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:45 pm

I have recently put a deposit down on a 54 plate RS6+ from a Main Dealer and will be picking her up next week.

Thats £18,614.08, possibly plus vat and not including tyres!
Should I be afraid, very afraid? or think of all that money (someone else's) that has been lavished on my soon to be car?

Yep that looks about right - though the previous owner seems to have done some damage at the front at some stage.

At least four goes at the DRC, and three of them (if the reports are correct) done WRONG!! You have to replace the shocks on the diagonal, and the accumulator at the same time - every instance above breaches this - so expect more failures to come.

Good luck!

The total is only 18.6k, unless I have calculated it wrongly.

I'll just put some more fertiliser on the money trees in my garden. :D

£6305 for suspension, no wonder warranty companies don't like it.

There are other bits which must have been damaged, such as fog light, front bumper etc, so those are not normal.
Brakes discs and pads are an easy-ish DIY job. Servicing at a specialist will be much less than the dealer.

Looks like this car could be described as "maintained regardless of cost" ;)

Wiper blades are £45, every year or so. Maybe the dealer was adding half-hour labour to fit them?

DRC, I was more worried about the number of wiperblades - Just joking!

Seriously, it will come with 1 years warranty and they are giving me the option to extend it to two years for £975, which, based on the costs incurred above, I will go for.

Thats why you cannot change the front pads and discs enough!

I've always thought the wheels were too expensive from Audi considering MTM Bimotos are over £200 cheaper a wheel.

1. replace front pads and discs £366.47
2. replace front brake pads and discs £907.85
Eh? Discs are about £450 for the drilled ones, pads are £200, takes an hour to do.

40k service typically way overpriced compared to indies like Unit 20 or MRC.

I suppose he was glad that the (Audi) warranty covered all the parts replaced.

looks like it might need new front discs, as although pads were done recently discs were at last done 38k and were historically changed on the car before that every 13k. Someone here will tell you if that's how long they should last, but be prepare to negotiate for a new set.

The dealer said that he had a few recent enquires, as the price had been reduced.
Were you interested enough to consider buying?
If so, sorry I beat you to it.

Anyone know what the minimum disc thickness should be?
Also, should disc thickness be picked up on the Audi 100 and something used car checklist?

Ah, I know the car.
Ive look around it a few times while ive been hanging around Audi Lister getting my 6+ serviced (30/09/08) and gearbox replaced (08/01/09)
Its been there since the end of September, originally on the forecourt for around 32 or 34k if I can remember correctly - very tidy and clean example.
Got yourself a good car there.

BTW: I'm sorry to say the running costs are horrendous if you do average milage per year (consumables like brakes, tyres & fuel) and warranty is essential unless you have very deep pockets.
