gearbox remap question

Does anyone know the answer to this question ?:

If you have your gearbox remapped by someone like MRC, then does the gearbox ecu have to be taken out and re-soldered back on ? or is the process the same as simply plugging into the main ECU port? (no removal and then soldering involved)

Thanks

The ecu has to be removed and the chip soldered .

Ok thanks guys, I was wondering how obvious this would be if the car had an audi warranty. Sounds like just a visual inspection would be obvious to the Master tech...?

I can't see the tech removing the trim , lifting the carpet , removing & open the plastic box that lives under the carpet & then working out the chip has been changed ..

is it worth remapping the gearbox without remapping the engine ?

I would suppose that a gearbox remap without a ECU remap be possible, but that'll be like having cognac without a cigar. best off doing all 3 chap

That is exactly what I was wondering, so that I perhaps get better economy and faster change down/up.

We usually don't offer gearbox remaps for standard cars. This could encourage people to get their engines remapped by other tuners and then come to us only for the gearbox remap, which we are just not interested in. The stage2 gearbox remap is something we have developped for our customers and because we are the only ones who offer this on the market, this is a bonus we keep for our customers only.

No one in the world can flash a tiptronic ECU through OBD2 as far as I'm aware, I don't even think the ECU supports it...

As for how visible it is, I can solder so no one can see that the chip has been soldered before or not.

Do the MTM TCU chip, no need for ECU 'til you're ready. I did mine, shifts fast and smooth.

I didn't mean remapping the gearbox via the OBD2 port, I was asking if it was a similar process (via a similar plug in cable method)
