Fun in the snow

Post by HYFR » Mon Feb 02, 2009 10:41 am

Had lots of fun today getting into work. . . Quattro made mince meat of the ungritted roads. Got some good piccies on my phone of the beast in the snow - will post up later if i can

was following a merc on the road and he had such poor grip his back end was wobbling all over the place

Got a snow covered car park at work so might try some acrobatics later with the traction control off !

:D

Lol, it doesn't matter how good the '6 is if someone else loses control, car is staying on the drive and I'm staying at home.

I remember once trying to get my wife to her mums in heavy snow cuz she didn't want to be "alone", I was driving her 2wd 1.2 corsa, scary sideways moments, like new pair of trousers scary - never again.

I guess now I know what a Q5 would look like!

We were going to take the RS6 into the West End of London tonight to see Oliver with the family.

No Trains or Buses here in Kent.

Dug the car out of the drive about an hour ago to get ready. Now they have canceled the show!

Mine's staying in the garage!

Mainly because I know the 4WD will get it going no problem, but stopping is the challenge - 2 tonnes and nice fat tyres - no thanks.

Today I wish I had a spare set of slim steel rims and some 165 M&S tyres - like I used to have for my SAAB 99 2Dr Turbo when we lived in Norway for 5 years! Then I could have some fun!

Oh and strangely, when we had a foot or more of snow did the traffic/busses/trains/planes stop?? Of course not!

Have fun

Dave

And watch I did, as the tail end of a 40 seater coach nudged the off-side rear quarter as it slid down the camber of the road. I wasn't in the car and frankly it was bound to happen with so many people slip-sliding around.

Hey ho, get the council to cough up for the repair work then off to enjoy the newly fitted Milltek again :-) Thanks Grizz - only popped in for a gearbox service and next thing I know....

Hey 500bhp, or 450 actually if its stock! There's only one TVR twin turbo Griff, twas up for sale for yonks and I heard it running at Austec, could that be you?

For all the snow queens, if I can have fun in both the TVR and the RS6 in the snow, then you can too. Quattro is just too easy.

Just for the record.

The Twin Turbo Griff was mine for 3 years which is why I have the 500bhp name and @gmail address. Nothing was quicker than the Griff that I have ever driven, as long as it was a straight line and you were moving. Racelogic traction control just gave up!

Standing starts 0-60 you never went anywhere for 1 sec as the tyres lit up. 1/4mile was 12.4 and 128mph recorded at Brighton Speed trials by a previous own who had it specially built by TVR Power and Courtney Turbos. I still have the history file and all bills. He spent £13k and me about another £10k on the engine. Paul at Austec was involved so ask him.
(See Pistonheads for some of the history).

We never did a final power run on the Austec rollers but there is a video somewhere of it pulling 370bhp only on 7 cylinders before the engine rebuild and 2 guys sat in the boot to keep it on the ground.

It finally went to TVR heaven after this Monster Meet day at Snetterton in a ball of fire on the M4 in Sept 2005. I just got out!

Been a bit of a wait whilst building a new business so just bought the RS6 last Friday so give me a chance to improve the stock figure!

Watch this space....Visit to Griz planned this Saturday
