s3 to rs6??

Hey all. I currently have a stage 1 mapped s3 and fancy a change. Ive been looking at e46 m3's and rs6's.
Few questions!!
* Whats the handling like compared to an s3
* Im guessing there obscenely thirsty
* whats the stats (0-60 etc) of a mapped rs6
* and whats the most likely thing to look out for on buying second hand (what are they renound for breaking)

DRC ( dynamic ride control) is a pain in the arse on RS6 & B7 RS4's, cost a few grand to replace!!
With twice the power of an S3....I am sure you'll notice the difference
fuel isnt as bad as you may think if you drive sensibly, mid 20's perhaps.

I echo the comments above (except the fuel comment).
DRC is a pain so find one that has aftermarket suspension or be prepared to pay for it yourself.
The cars are quick and, of course, even quicker when remapped.
I wouldn't expect even 20 mpg. Had two S3's and the trip on them used to average around 20-25 but the RS6 is in a different league of thirstiness.

DRC and gearbox by all accounts, worth getting a warranty perhaps
fuel, depends on your types of journey, i get indicated 28-29mpg if on cruise control on 70mph motorway, but mixed your looking more like 15mpg, its a fat old woman (1.8tn) !!

my display has never went up or down it stays at 17.4 all the time. Although, I went to scotland once and it was a 300 mile round trip. It went to 17.5 !

Mines mostly urban, 12.9 mpg although i got 21.8mpg on a recent stag W/E blast, soem backroads, the odd squirt and an 80 mph motorway stint on cruise

I went from 3 years of Audi TT's

to an RS6

, owned it for 3 years of sheer bliss. Believe me, after an S3 you wont look back! (except to see all those people you've rapidly left behind).

reset the average MPG when on 70mph cruise on a motorway, then you get 28-29mpg [indicated]
im only fooling myself as i know every other time i touch the pedal im struggling to get 20mpg. . . . but ignorance is bliss

I find fuel fuel costs aren't really the major concern it's the other running costs which some people seem to forget about when thinking of purchasing a car. Tyres, brake discs and pads and general servicing. This thing eats tyres discs and pads like no other car I've owned. But then the performance is like no other car I've owned. A good friend of mine owns a remapped, milltek exhausted S3, with about 270bhp. Once upon a time I would have thought it was quick, he thought it was, but every time I put my foot down it just appeared that nothing was happening. Every other car I've driven since I've owned the rs6 has just given me the impression that they've been down on power for some reason.
I took my S3 owning friend out for a drive in my car and he was frankly so terrified by the relentless acceleration that he refused the offer of a drive. He was humbled.
The rs6 isn't as nimble as an S3, but the roadholding is better, and with the bilstein suspension and hotchkis arb's the handling is better balanced as well.

By the way, if you're considering buying one assume you'll have to replace the gearbox at some point and factor that into your running costs as well.
It's still cheaper to buy and run than the Aston Vanquish, which didn't, when it tried to pull away from me the other day.

Well i think you guys have swayed me! I still am very interested in an rs6 due to the sheer power of them!! And to be fair, dont really do that much mileage so i think running cost will be at the minimal for an rs6.
Only concern would be about the drc and gearbox. After seeing some advertised saying they had to shell out 11 grand for a new gearbox kind of made me think a little. lol.
How much would a decent suspension setup set me back? Im guessing the rule of thumb is decent shocks, ie bilstein or the likes teamed with a progressive (minimal) lowering type spring?? and do the arb's have a big effect when teamed with the full sus setup??

Perhaps a daft question Mac, but have you ever reset the Average MPG on your DIS? If it hasn't been reset for a very long time then you'll hardly notice it change at all.

The bilstein kit includes springs, the damping rates and ride height are both adjustable. The kit costs somewhere in the region of £1400 + fitting. Speak to Grizz on this forum.
£11k for a gearbox!!!! It'll never cost that, more like £5k for a ZF factory re-con box supplied and fitted including v.a.t, DSGWagen [ hayseldens, doncaster ] would do that for you. You may not need one, mine lasted 74k.

The arb's cost £400, make the ride quality a little more jittery, but improve the balance when pressing on a bit and substantially cut roll.

I thought about it, but then I thought just leave it cos it doesn't look that bad for such a best!!
