My luverly avant has a sick box. Done 92,000. Was a bit notchy before, even lost 1st gear when it was cold at a junction once or twice. Got the oil changed and it certainly is better than it was but it still, on occasion, thumps into gear, so I think its about time to come to the enevitable truth that I will need a replacement box. Or can it be reconditioned ? Where, apart from the obvious stealers, is the best place to get one.? Any ideas ?

Talk to Grizz and Unit20 he's posted before in this forum that he has someone local to him who can recondition the box.

With so many labour hours going into a gearbox change is it worth taking the risk with a reconditioned box? Make sure it comes with a warranty that covers labour hours if it goes wrong again.
We fit new exchange gearboxes from Audi that come with a 2 year parts and labour warranty.

The box in my S6 started to judder in 3rd gear, its away at the minute getting rebuilt. I think its the same box as the RS6 (ZF box 5HP24A) apparently it was the clutch hub. They reconditioned the torque convertor at the same time. Getting it back on Tuesday, All in it cost £1840... not good after 3 months of ownership..
