I suspect your air con needs re-charging. The unit has a failsafe to stop the air con being used when the gas is low. This is to stop damage.

I have spent a bit of time looking into this and saw a message within another forum (based on A4) that said it could be a pressure sensor for condenser radiator. The cost for this part was £40 and sounded reasonably easy to fit... Has anybody heard of this? Audi wanted £70 to do a diog and said a recharge through audi would cost £100...

The first procedure is to establish wheather or not the system is low on rerigerant, because ive had a few where the high pressure switch plug has had a poor connection or even broken wires around the plug,Maybe after a cam belt change)The easist way is to do a diagnostic on the climate itself to elimaniate any electrical trouble, failing that if its a low refridgerant problem its worth have a nitrogen test done or refilled with a dye. ( its worth looking through the bumber grille look for any oily or slightly dirty patches on the condensor. to see any sign of previous leaks..Quite common!
shame you wasn't a little closer to suffolk i could investigate for you!!
