My new car has 535 horses !

Post by Wolverine » Sun Mar 19, 2006 12:36 am

Well, I finally took the plunge and have put down a deposit on an RS6. Not an ordinary one mind you, its been tweaked a little .... 535 BHP ! As Chantelle would say "oh my god!". So would that make my car faster than a new shape M5 ?

Pick it up tomorrow .... I wonder how many times I will fill the tank in one day :)

Congrats Wolverine ... I know you've been taking your time making sure your making the right decision and getting the right car. What swung it for you in the end?

Low down on spec and the performance tweaks are most definetely required!!!

I guess we won't be hearing from you tomorrow then ... I expect you'll become good friends with the staff at your local shell garage during the next couple of weeks!!!

Enjoy your new ride.

Rich.

Thanks all. Yes, I'm pretty chuffed. Car is better than I expected. Will post some photos and videos when I get a chance, weather just been aweful lately.

I bought a Daytonna Grey Avant with Black leather/Silver Piping. Has had the stage 3 conversion done by West Tuning (Full Miltek exhaust with 100 cell cats and engine + gearbox remap). Has got the Solar sunroof and TV screens in the rear headrests as well. And its mint, and its MINE !

As many of you know, I have been looking for a while, um-ing and argh-ing whether to buy one on cost. Well, what swung it for me in the end was that I have accepted the running costs of the car, and strongly believe the heavy depreciation the car has so far suffered is now gone. The reason is this ...

1). There are less than 500 Avants made, so still pretty exclusive.
2). There are less than usually 50 for sale countrywide at any time, so very hard to come by. If you see the right car, you just gotta snap it up or wait another six months.
3). Audi dealers have 50% of cars for sale, and continue to peg prices high.
4). New RS6 still a long way off, and will be priced too high to have any effect on residuals.
5). Current RS4 ... realistically is £55k when specced, so RS6s look like a bargain in comparison, and still no Avant.
6). No real competition except for AMG E55 Estate which is even rarer and more costly.
7). Other alternative is Cayenne Turbo, but not very good looking, and generally £10k higher.

So I think demand versus supply economics should keep RS6 prices relatively healthy.

Craig dude ... once I get settled with the car, we need to talk about bluetooth !

Lovely spec and those screens a real plus.

Still grinning when you think about getting into it? I am 4 months in.

Sounds a peach - have fun!

If you're ever passing oxfordshire, I'd love to see how the remap compares to 'standard'

Enjoy!

Bob ... if i pass Oxfordshire would be happy to give you a ride. Alternatively, if your in the sarth of Landan give me a shout.

I've driven about 6 RS6s to date, one other was an ABT 505BHP. Its difficult for me to say how much difference there is, because my test drives were only short and I couldn't open them up as much as I wished. The main difference to me appears to be the response, its more instant, and power comes on earlier and harder than the standard RS6s I have driven, and the gear changes are better. However, have only done 300 miles in mine, so would really need to do a back to back test with a standard car to get a proper evaluation. I'm just glad someone else spent the £5-6k grand doing it for me  :jump_clap: .

Hmmm ...must remember to change my avatar.

Very nice wolverine ... looking forward to some photo's - particularly would like to see the rear head rest screens.

Did you buy privately or through a dealer?

What do you think of the Milltek full exhaust ... is it all that you hoped it to be?

Rich.

Rich ... bought the car privately in the end and got a very good deal which I cant elaborate further.

The exhaust ... well, yes, I do like it alot and am very pleased I have it. Its as you say a sort of grown up exhaust, not a boy racer type. Could be a shade louder under full throttle though, maybe this is where the MTM scores as it has a butterfly valve. It sounds very different when standing behind the car than sitting in the car though, I think Audi sound-proofing is very good. Will take some video/sound clips when I find a suitable tunnel. Sound aside, it does make a noticable power increase, so helps justify the cost I suppose.

Glad you like it ... I agree it does sound different inside compared to out ... some very good insulation installed me's thinks. I had a close friend do a couple of drive-by's at various speeds and it does sound a lot louder (in a good sense ... lovely V8 roar) outside of the car.

Out of curiousity, was the stage 3 conversion a must have or a nice to have for you? Do you feel you paid a premium for the car having the stage 3 on or was it more of a selling point?

Rich.

It wasn't really a must have for me, and I wasn't even aware the car had it when I went to look at it. Personally I think 450BHP is alot of horses, but hey, if you can have 535 then why not ! For me it was more of a selling point than anything else, and I dont think I paid much of a premium for it.
