Hi guys

Hopefully getting the car back together this week. As some of you know my rebuild includes refurbed calipers and braided hoses.

With this in mind I might as well flush the brake fluid and replace. Am I right in thinking ATE 200 Dot 4 is recommended? How Mach do you think I need?

ATE 200 (replaced super blue) That’s what I used Chris. I used 2 litres so as to give it a good flush.
Just wish it was still blue.

I know some members use a cheaper oil for the flush. I just couldn’t be arsed. I think the two litres cost me £29:00.

Long time no speak

Yeah, they made that ATE Type 200 in 2 colours, so you could swap between them every change, and know you got all the old fluid out. I miss that they don't make it anymore due to DOT colouring regulations, so I recently purchased some blue hydraulic dye powder to make my own. Motul RBF 660 is fairly cheap these days, so I'm using that in most stuff I own now.

If you're interested in the blue brake fluid experiments, I'll post up my results in a thread. I need to get a dosing spoon for this, as I think I'll only need 50mg of dye for a 500ml bottle!

What powder did you buy?

I went for a sample pot of Solvent Blue 97 (Bestoil Blue 2RA) from fastcolours.com. It's in powder form, and seems to disolve well in the ethylene glycol. The results below are from the tip of a screwdriver dipped into the powder and mixed through. It's clearly potent stuff. I'll get a bit more scientific when my dosing spoon arrives, as alas, I do not have powder scales of sufficient accuracy to measure what's needed
