Steering wheel refirb
Steering wheel refirb
So this is just a follow along, and a way for me to share my pain.
The leather in my 6 is pretty good for its age, TBH it should look a lot worse for a 200k+ kilometer car, I've seen 4 year old leather that looks worse.
Anyway, the 1 major PITA is the steering wheel. I don't know what on earth happened, maybe one of the POs was a mutant that sweat acid? Anyway from 10 to 2 it seems as the leather surface has been eroded.
As an aside, a new one from Tradition is 860 odd euro, yeah nah.. Recovering has been quoted at around $800NZD, yeah maybe. I did a bit of calling around and this chap and his product was recommend.
https://www.paulfordleatherproducts.co. ... -kits.html
Hopefully the contents and process will bring some life back into the wheel, if not I'm going to get it recovered.
So, follow along to see the redemption or damnification of my steering wheel.
Pic 1 and 2 are the state it was in.
Pic 3 is post 1st scrub with a scouring pad and the kit cleaning solution.
Pic 4 is the process where I'm going over the perforations to 'reinstate' them - FML.

interested to see how this turns out.
Re: Steering wheel refirb
After seeing that, 800 EUR for a new OEM steering wheel sounds like an OK price to me!

Sometimes one shouldn’t share their pain and misfortune with other. Sometimes you just need to bury that <beep> deep down (along with that steering wheel) and not inflict your misery on others.
Have you tried getting a good used replacement? Try Steve Green on 07835 176599, he ships internationally and will have several to choose from.
EDIT...
I just spoke with Steve and he has a couple at £150 each plus shipping. His email address is Stevegreenrs@gmail.com if you want to see pictures.

Re: Steering wheel refirb
Im sure a place in poland does pretty good retrims, they advertise on Ebay
Think you have to send it over but can pick all the extras you want, flat bottom, 12oclock stripe, thumb grips etc (I wouldnt personally) but work looks good, and can have just perforated like oem

Wow. Never seen a steering wheel like that. P O must have used sandpaper gloves.
Mine has covered 118 k miles and still looks like new.
Granted I had to replace the Rs6 logo badge at the bottom of the steering wheel, but the rest of the wheel is as new.
Hope you get yours sorted mate. I think I would have replaced it rather than recon it.

Re: Steering wheel refirb
You’d have replaced the entire interior while you were at it. I’m surprised your OCD let you get away with just replacing the badge.

Bought 4. One on the car and 3 JUST IN CASE I NEED THEM.
Have you been talking to my wife regarding my OCD.
I think I am normal with a tiny bit of a passion.
She thinks I have lost the plot.

“ 3 JUST IN CASE I NEED THEM”
Where did you get them and I assume you’re happy with the quality?

Went on line. Very happy with the quality.
Will dig info out if you need it Chris.
From a faded memory I think about 30-40 £ each.
Wife has been tidying the house.
Bet I cannot find them. They will probably be with the Ross tech cable that she has also put somewhere and we cannot find that either.

Will see if I can dig out the info Chris. It was quite some time ago. And my folder of invoices for purchases on the 6 is extremely “thick”.
Wow Have I really spent that much ! Perhaps my wife has a point after all. lol.

Still looking for the invoice to confirm.

Love it. Seeing the reactions so far is exactly why I'm sharing my pain.ChrisA wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:28 amSometimes one shouldn’t share their pain and misfortune with other. Okie doki, Steve will be hearing from me if this turns tits up. TBH poking holes in the steering wheel is a great way to pass the time during online meetings.

That's a good price.
I've also gone down the interior rabbit hole.
I managed to get a badge from Tom Fox @Crewe Audi.
It was £52.
Looking forward to fitting along with all the others new interior trim.
Should be fresh
