The Car that just keeps on giving…..

Post by NC5RS6owner » Mon Sep 27, 2021 7:30 pm

Problems that is, so as your all aware Brake Booster valve was fixed 👍 then I got the dreaded F125 switch sorted, all at unit 20 when I picked the car up I asked Grizz to check the oil leak out for me was advised there, was oil around the front passenger side area, and there’s a amount on the drive way.
So anyway today driving on the motorway and went to accelerate and there was a thud like a massive boost revs went upto 7 but no acceleration so pulled over on the hard shoulder, no drive our reverse working, brakes etc fine no warning lights etc, so it’s another trip to unit 20 low loader he we come again unbelievable, how much this car has cost already, and just to rub salt in couple of weeks ago so <beep> Rev into my front bumper and you’ve guessed it no note was left , any ideas our anyone have this happen to them regarding loss of acceleration? Is it to do with the loss of oil, our gearbox thanks again Barry

This is why RS ownership is called the burning £50 notes for fun club! Sympathies. They are all like this. Get one thing sorted and they think 'hah' and bugger something else.

Sorry to hear it.

Sounds like something mechanical has broken. Drive shaft or output shaft or something.

Barry so sorry mate. I know you love the car but this is really annoying after the recent work you had done.
Yes back to unit 20.
I can just hear the grief you will be getting at home.
After all I have been in that position MANY TIMES.
Keep the faith. Let’s hope it isn’t too costly to fix.

The problem is they are just so addictive. No other car I have driven is anywhere near it.
I presume all Rs6 C5 owners have a similar opinion.
In a warped kind of way it’s a nice feeling getting them sorted. Yet deeply buried in the sub conscious wondering what will be the next problem to sort.
I consider myself fortunate in that the car has never failed to get me to my destination or back home again.
Nevertheless “Christine “ does get threatened with a damn good thrashing every now and again, after testing my patience to the limit.

Hope grizz gives you some good news and whatever is needed isn’t too costly. Keeping my fingers crossed for you mate.

A mate of mine had just filled up with petrol. Went to pay for it. While he was in the Shop some low life drove into his rear end.
Driver drove off without saying a word. However there was a witness. Police were informed but he is not expecting them to follow it up. Beggars belief.

Good afternoon , We have looked at your car and it looks like the torque
converter has failed .

This will require the engine to be removed and the gearbox stripped .
Depending on how bad the converter is it might be repairable , it not
it'll require a new unit .

The gearbox will need stripping to remove the swarf and rebuilding after .

It'll 3-4 weeks before this can be done

So that’s the outcome max £4.5 K work just nearly fell over I’m getting it done, the credit cards are going to love me like the car too much to give up on her , well there’s one shining light when it’s fixed if I do sell on there’s been some good work done on it

We have to regard the transmission as a service item.
We can increase its life by looking after it, but unless you've owned it from new or had it a long time you won't really know how it's been treated. And even if you do, you could be unlucky.
One of Grizz's customers got over 200K miles out of original gearbox & with a map, others have trashed them in a month.
Once it's fixed, you're probaly better off keeping it, as sadly it won't be worth much more than it was before it broke.
Out of interest how many miles has it done? How many owners? How many gearbox services? Re mapped?
Good luck.

After the initial shock. And with engine coming out and gearbox strip down.
My initial thoughts were
1) Should I get the gearbox upgrade.
2) what else should be done whilst engine is out to future proof the car.

Obviously it all comes down to cost and what your budget is.

Barry all my problems are minuscule in comparison. Sorry for the bad news mate.

Can't you get in touch with Chester Automatics ? I think ? They do the job for around half of that as they don't remove the engine to do it.

Also if it's just the TC that's failed why the need for the box to be stripped ?

You are 100% correct the metal etc will have gone inside there he did say it might not need all that but more than likely will do gave me the worse case scenario just saying I won £1000 last night on live up Givaways so there’s a bit of a help towards the payment when it arrives couldn’t believe it, hopefully my luck is changing for the better

At least when it’s done you know it will be sound.
Any additional work recommended by grizz whilst engine/gearbox out.
Seals , bufkin pipe etc and stuff that cannot be done with engine in situ.

On the £1000 win. Nice one. Just wish there was another nought on the end for you.
