Just a casual gloat..

Dropped the avant off at the dealership for a full alignment and diagnostic scan this morning. The dealer principal (boss man) comes and says "You're dropping off that C5 RS?", "Ahhh yup" says I, thinking he's about to say 'get that POS antique away from my ivory tower", but instead he says "Stay there, I got something for you".

Still concerned he won't be satisfied with merely telling be to PO, and is going for the fire hose, I stand there exchanging akward looks with the service advisor till the DP comes back over.

And slides this across the counter!

It's in absolutely mint condition. I'm a happy chappy (until I get the invoice)

Holy <beep> that’s awesome. I hope they’ve got another one to refer to while they do your car!

He does, he has 2 (now 1). He spent about 5 minutes talking about all the classic sales brochures he has. Huge amount of passion for Audi and Porsche.

I'm getting the avant back tomorrow, cleared the codes, none hung around (will see after some driving). Fresh WOF (MOT), and all aligned. The esp light was on after a long period of time with the battery disconnected. Apparently the steering wheel angle sensor was out 360 degrees (wtf?) and possibly disconnecting the battery... Blah blah who knows. Anyway, they pulled the steering wheel off and sorted it. Otherwise it seems to be in relatively tippy top shape for a 200,000km car.

Next up, oil change, front differential fluid, replace secondary coolant fan, replace power steering pump, valet interior.

Awesome news.

Do they still have that thing in NZ where they confiscate your car if you get caught going too fast? Are there even any roads where that's possible outside of Auckland? I did Auckland to Rotorua (and further) in a Commodore V8. The roads were good fun... Just the kind of roads I like - nice and twisty and empty. Except at night when it became a game of dodge the Possum.

Sort of Shop, though like many places it depends on who pulled you over and whether or not they ran out of marmite that morning.
Confiscation would be a combination of a few laws, easiest one would be anti-cruising or "stunt driving". But I'd wager it would usually mean a 28 day roadside suspension, hefty fine and a large amount of demerit points. Though in saying that the snakes down here are adopting no chase policies more and more, too many deaths from drunken knobs thinking it's grand theft auto 5 and driving into power poles.

Decent high speed runs are definitely possible these days, state highway 1 is relatively modern there's days of you're heading north or south of auckland for at least 3 hours or so. It's less dodge the possum (sounds like a technique used in bed) and more dodge the tourist in a camper van on the wrong side of the road. Though covid has put a damper on that, so its just the usual "don't get killed by the drunk farm hand/share milker".

Oh and if you like twisties, google Scenic Drive and Mountain Road, Titirangi. 5 min up the road from me, good fun and you don't have to break the speed limit to do so.
