Another gearbox problem

Hi Joe, sorry to be the one to give you the bad news, but that is more than likely going to need a rebuild. That is how mine was. Got it up to Grizz at Unit 20 for him to remove the box, have it rebuilt , sort out the TC and then do loads of other bits while the engine was out. Not a cheap exercise.

whereabouts are you ???
You can go to this guy http://www.autotransuk.com/
He's really good and knows what his doing. Owned RS6 himself.
Pricewise I know he was doing the rebuild for £1600 but I've heard he might have raise prices a bit. Best call him directly

Who did the last gearbox service?
Could be the oil level is incorrect or wrong pick up pipe.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

There's also the infamous F125 switch. If the gearbox has been serviced also check the seals aren't leaking. When mine was serviced one of the seals sprung a leak.

Worth checking out both before assuming the box is dead.

Yeah thanks guys the fact it only started doing it after a really long drive makes me think theres hope that either wrong parts or even that they didnt change filter and just dropped the oil or didnt do the correct filling procedure as it was just a normal independent that did it.could even have used wrong oil.ill go down the oil service first.is the pickup up seperate and should be changed every time then?

The pick up is integral to the filter and there are two options that fit but one is specific to the RS6 in length.

Also any backstreet garage would have probably used normal red ATF and the Rs6 needs a green coloured oil you get from Audi direct.

In general I wouldn't take an RS anywhere near a general garage. It needs specialist attention. You'd have to prove it was their work and not just age/mileage related failure which wouldn't be easy.

Just to add to this - a cracked filter / pickup pipe will also do something similar.
