£8k RS6
£8k RS6
Hi All,
Going to be looking for an RS6 in the next few months. I currently own a 2006 A8 4.2tdi Sport.
I've noticed there are quite a few RS6's priced cheaply but don't seem to be selling that quick, theres a blue one on eBay at the moment for £7250 that looks pretty decent but doesn't seem to be shifting. It's got high mileage which is average for the age (10k/ year) but that wouldn't put me off, I usually buy cars with higher mileage as long its they have FSH and are in good nick.
I could easily buy 2 or 3 on eBay that are around the £8k mark but is it a mistake doing this and will I be letting myself in for trouble?
I've had a look at past sales on eBay and there are a couple that have sold between 5 and 6k!
This will be the most I've spent on a car so don't want to be suckered in be the looks and sound of the engine. My A8 is perfect and drives like new but I have always wanted an RS6 since they were released.

At that budget you will have to go and look closely at the cars. Many ads will be lies, defects will be hidden, there will be something that is putting people off. There might be a genuine car in there somewhere, but you are going to have to put the legwork in to find it.
Feel free to post up the ads of the cars that you are interested in so we can pick them to pieces.

Re: £8k RS6
I think it’s one of those cars that appeals to the minority of people who know what they are. They have a terrific reputation for unreliability and maintenance costs is eye watering, this can put a lot of buyers off without even viewing the car.
I’d say judge each car on its condition and history not mileage or age. If the owner is a switched on enthusiast who knows their stuff I’d be more comfortable than if they just bought a fast Audi because it’s sub 10k.

Re: £8k RS6
At £8k there are likely issues, but as long as you have a rough idea of what they are and have the cash to put any issues right, they won't be an issue. If you want so spend £8k then budget £10k or more for issues.
Mine was cheap at £9k when I bought it and I spent £2.5k sorting all the niggly little issues over the last year. Although £650 of that was a Map

Re: £8k RS6
Thanks for the swift replies.
I suppose the 4 main things are gearbox, suspension and turbos and cambelt. As long as these are in order then hopefully there shouldn't be too much of an imminent scare money wise. I will probably do 3k miles a year which is a mix of business and pleasure.
This is the exact colour I am looking for, Daytona Grey.

Seems like a bargain at the price, or is it....

Re: £8k RS6
On the surface of it, it looks fairly tidy, but you need to see it up close.
I don't like the sound of the rear silencer delete. That's going to need replacing.
Also the rear suspension looks too high. If it's on DRC then it suggests an incorrect re-charge, which happens a lot. If all the DRC components are functioning then maybe a correct recharge by MRC or similar will sort it. Or it could just be the uneven ground in the photo. Hard to tell.
The 12 year previous owner friend thing sounds like bullshit. I bet he's had the car for less than 6 months.
Can't see what tyres it's on.
Best colour for them, obvs.

It was doing a lot of miles early in life. About 20k a year. Owner must have had deep pockets or worked for Shell.

My RS6 is one of those for sale, Mugello blue 99k Miles.
It is also an original example on original turbos and gearbox. It’s always frustrating when I hear of OE cars being labelled as risks/timebombs etc, I’ve ran my RS6 for two years putting on approx 9k Miles and always having any maintenance work/issues sorted as and when they occur.
In my sale advert I purposely label every little issue with my car so any person who potentially would be interested will know any issues with her no matter how little they are.
My RS6 is not a forced sell, I am just at a cross roads where I fancy a change(2 years of ownership) however as the market is very hit and miss I can see my RS6 being stored up and used as and when I feel like running her.
My ko4’d C5 Allroad will soon be on daily duties

Re: £8k RS6
You obviously know a bit about the model, I see a car I want in good condition and overlook the above points. It doesn't mention anything about suspension - could maybe be a bargaining point. The RNSE is nice. You would need to view as pictures can and do lie!Shoppinit wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 8:27 amOn the surface of it, it looks fairly tidy, but you need to see it up close.

Re: £8k RS6
I saw yours for sale under the grey one I mentioned. I thought how honest the ad seemed. The grey one mentions no problems and is £495 cheaper although 66k more miles. Makes me wonder if they'll be any future issues on it hence the post.benh999 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 7:53 pmMy RS6 is one of those for sale, Mugello blue 99k Miles.

Re: £8k RS6
I know Greg who is selling the RS6 you are looking at.
He’s a genuine seller, he purchased the RS6 not long ago and it has been perfect for him however he’s just decided that he wants a newer/modern car such as a later model S6 or a S8 V10.
