Engine Management Light - Cooling Fan 2 + Evap system?

Hello,

I've recently purchased a 2003 RS6 Avant.

Unfortunately, the EML has just started coming on...

VCDS gives the following codes:

* 16825 EVAP Emission Control Sys. Incorrect Flow

* 18393 Coolant control Module 2 (J671): Malfunction. Intermittent

The car drives normally and temp stays at 90 deg c.

If I clear the codes the EML returns after ~ 100 miles.

Fan output tests are ok, however fan 2 (smaller) sounds quite rough.

The N80 valve clicks ok during output testing.

The codes only appear together. How can the Evap system be linked to the cooling system?

Could the rough fan cause this? Or should I replace the J671 module (looks hard to get at(!))

Thanks

Worth checking the fuel cap is on properly and fully clicked into place. I've had the odd EVAP error that turned out to be the fuel cap not fully clicked into place.

Dodgy battery can also cause all manner of weirdness so I'd check that and fully charge it on an intelligent trickle charger. Reset the codes and see which ones return.

Some of the code readers have an EVAP system test but I don't know how good they are and whether they can tell you where any leak is.

I have a similar error to your 18393 Coolant Control Module 2. Mine is:

18070 - Coolant Fan Control 2 (P1662 - 002 - Short to Ground - Intermittent)

I purchased a spare Coolant Fan Control unit just in case, but it would seem that some of the wiring has been fettled with (hard to see exactly, so I plan to put the nose into Service Mode in the coming months), so I might be able to get away with just sorting wiring out.

Thanks for quick replies.

I’ll change the fuel cap as it was looking scruffy anyway.

Give the second fan is lumpy I’ll change that too. Looks like a nightmare to get to though!
