Anyone got one lying around?
I only really want the seal and not the whole flange assembly which is what Audi want to sell me.
Timken in the USA do one but i cant find one in this country.
It's a long shot but you never know.....

Good find - this should go in the DIY/HowTo/Links list.

You have to be careful when putting these seals on over the crank shaft, otherwise they can flip in the process. They have an outer seal on them that hides the inner seal, so you can't see if it flips. The Audi rear seal plate comes with a plastic tool for sliding the whole thing smoothly on to the crank shaft.
Plate, seal and plastic tool, viewed from the inside so you can see how the seal is pointing inwards to seal more under pressure.
Viewed from the outside with the plate and seal going on.You can see the outer seal which hides the inner lip.

Guys,
I looked at the Coreteco seal but postage was £22.00 for next day (they appear to be in Estonia)
I thought it was worth a try with TPS as after some research i was pretty sure the seal is used on other VW Group vehicles.
As i had the flange off the car i checked for a part number and there was one on the seal.
Voila! seal was available next day for £21.68 delivered to my door.
No brainer for me as it came with the plastic application tool shown in Simon's pictures.
For reference, part number is 0701 030 51A.
Fairly easy swapping the seals over and that particular job has cost me 1/10 of what it would cost to buy the whole rear flange assembly which is what is listed for the RS6.

Good to hear... I probably should have done a bit more research
Do you have to remove the whole flange plate to renew the seal?

I took the whole plate off as i had a leak which seemed to be coming from around the plate and thought it wise to replace the seal when i was this far down.
I suppose in theory it could be done in situ, the main problem would be getting the old seal out - mine took a bit of persuading.
If i was doing it again, i would still remove the flange plate as it is not much more work and makes the job easier.

Yeah exactly the issue I had as well. At 95k there was no leaking from the rear main seal, just between the flange plate and the engine block.

I think I have this same problem. Seal at back of gear box? Small leak of oil on the drive. (92k miles)
My garage (non stealer) has quoted about £260 to sort as exhaust etc needs to be removed. Sound a fair price for that job?
Will get the gearbox serviced as well for about £500 all in. Never know if I'm being ripped off!

No, that sounds more like gearbox output seal. There's a DIY in the FAQ if you want to see what's involved.
