Locking and unlocking

Hi guys I've owned my rs6 for a year now and been meaning to ask this question but keep forgetting. To unlock the car I have to press the button on my fob 4 times. It's the same with locking it if the car is left open for a while. If I lock then unlock it does it first go. Only does it if left for half an hour or more. Surely this isn't normal?
Cheers
Chris

Doesn't sound normal. You'll need a
Vagcom to diagnose properly. You could try changing the batteries and re-learning the fobs, but if you can't relearn them for some reason then you'll be in a more awkward position.
Does the spare key do the same?

Had similar problems on another car (not an Audi) and it was down to a combination of poor-quality batteries and dirty contacts inside the fob.
So, for starters, fit new batteries and ensure the contacts are firm and clean, abrade slightly if necessary.

The problem with second hand electrical parts , certainly when they are a very common fault like the door locks on vag cars is that even if it does cure the problem it's bound to rear it's head again shortly after .specially if it's from again vehicle of the same age and haven't been change my previously. You can get copy versions off ebay for not bad money though I have replaced 2 drivers side eBay units in under a year for different faults on mine
*wrong thread * bugger .

Yeh it does it with both fobs. If I for example go to the petrol station. It locks and unlocks first time. It's only when it's been left for a while the fob has to be pressed 4 times. Always 4 times.

Sounds like your car is suffering with OCD.

Is it worth checking the bcm for any water ingress ?

It's a weird one. Try recoding the central locking module.

*CCM
Is there a specific antenna for the central locking or is in inside the CCM unit? I know there are specific antennas for other models (sometimes in the rear wings or above the boot lid). Certainly newer keyless models have an antenna too.

is it actually trying to unlock the 3 times before the 4th successful try - ie. can you hear any of the locks trying to do anything?
Mine used to unlock only on the second attempt quite regularly - then the boot lock failed, replaced it and its been fine since..

I think you are right! Haha
No the first 3 times it does nothing at all.
How do I go about recoding it?

It's quite simple if you have
VCDS - see below. I think you can also do it with just the keys and ignition by I've never tried it.

This looks like the key/ignition method, but haven't had to use it for a while. Looks familiar.
You'll obviously need 2 keys for this, though.
