Dead gearbox advice and options.

Hi guys.
I'm new to the forum, had my rs6 since just before Christmas. Already had the engine out and done a fair few bits on the car.
On to the box. When I brought the car it had been fitted with a new box at audi around 20k previous. I had MRC give it a service for peice of mind.
Anyway around 5-6k later I start getting the delayed first gear. So I bit the bullet and changed the fluid again. There was alot of crap in the old oil, bronze bits the lot. The fresh oil gave it some life but it's big time shot now.
So my main question is what companies can do the job at what money?
I know AMD offer the job at around 3.8k but does this cover mapped cars?
Failing that how much is a box recon, torque converter and oil cooler? I guess Chester auto transmissions is the place for that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Eden

Firstly
FON
Secondly use the search facility on here. There are numerous threads about gearboxes!
And when you've read all the gearbox ones you can then start on the ones about tyres!

how many miles has that 'new' box from Audi done? Is it not under warranty still?

The car is modified though so I'd think the Audi warranty would be void. You'd need information from Audi to prove they thought this gearbox was fit to handle the power in the car if it were fitted to an already modified car and they were happy to guarantee it. It's usually 2 years I think.

Gearbox was definitely done over 2 years ago, tho I'll check my history tonight when I'm home.
Was done 2 owners before me. The chap I had it off only had the car for around 10 months.

Bummer.
Some info on box builders here:

I believe MRC use exchange boxes from Audi so they can offer a 2 year warranty.
Or you could source a box from ZF and fit it yourself.

If you've already done this....

Then I'd suggest just do this:

And do it yourself. You'll save a good chunk of cash and know the jobs been done right, and they'll supply both the box and the TC.
The hardest part, once everything is out, is getting the turbos off, you'll probably end up drilling out studs and helicoiling etc.
While it's out, make sure to also do the top lambdas & the Bufkin Pipe.

My main thing with getting it done by someone is having a warranty really, also I'm struggling for time myself. I'm a plumber so this is a busy time of year for me, cars are a hobby.
But obviously if no one can offer a warranty with a mapped car then not worth the pay out.

The Audi warranty is 2 years even if you fit it yourself.
Although unless you can get a decent discount on it, you might as well get MRC to do it.

Also check the warranty actually includes getting the box back out of the car if there is a problem. I think it's half the cost.

I haven't phoned anywhere yet, I was just after some advice before I started phoning around like a mad man.
I know AMD only offer the warranty for the labour for the first year but 3 years on the box itself l.
