No More PS2 R01

Post by Drummerman » Sat Sep 24, 2016 8:41 pm

Now my tyre of choice is no longer available, I've searched the forum but can,t say I'm impressed with the choice available as I still have "the knobbly bit". Am I going to have to have them removed or can anyone say they have found a tyre that will fit and they are genuinely happy with. By the way I have a set of winter wheels so I am looking for something good for the summer (if we ever get one again).

Goodyear Eagle F1. Or fit 10mm spacers?

I'm running PS2 with the M01 (Marc SL63 IIRC) fitment. Apparently they have the same tyre compound, I never used the R01 but I'm impressed by them!

I did grind the knobblo off tho

Try the PS4. They look promising.

I'm not that impressed with them. I think they might be good on lighter cars.

^ what MPSS? Seriously. They do well on many other barges. GTR R35 for example. There's a good few C5 drivers running them too. I'm surprised if they are the tyres you didn't get on with. What let them down for you?

Been pleasantly surprised by MPSS on our mini cooper s, was expecting them to be poor in wet & wear quickly, but are better in both respects than the oe M primacy they replaced and are incredible in the dry.
Having a set of winters on the RS6 like you, I'll now be happy to go with them MPSS next time otherwise the PS2 MO or Goodyear Eagle.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with them, they're still good tyres. I'd use them in a pinch, I just don't think they're as good as the PS2. That's why I'm curious about the PS4. I have a feeling they might be a worthy successor to the PS2.

I've got PSS on the rear of my M3 at moment. I'm not particularly impressed even on a lighter car. They are quite slippy unless the conditions are at least 12 degrees out. And they turn to goo quickly on the track, but TBF maybe the PS2 do, too.

I might try the Tombstone RE050A next time *pause for sharp intake of breath* - on the M3 I mean. These are poo on a RS6 but I suspect they might be quite good on a lighter car.

/the GTR is quite a lot lighter than the RS6.
