Was doing a left front bearing and bushings at my local Shop, and figured they could swap the oil seal on that side as well, as there's a slow drip. They claim pulling the axle will drain the box and require a full fluid swap. Is this correct?

Depends which side. If you pull the left shaft out of the diff then you will leak diff oil into the atf IIRC. You need to drain some diff oil out first. The manual will tell you the details.
