Lake in front passenger footwell!

Post by srichards » Mon Apr 18, 2016 8:25 am

Noticed yesterday that the front passenger footwell is saturated with water. It's so wet it's making the carpet behind the front seat damp too.

Any idea where water gets in? I have a soft top that lets less water in than this! The garage it was at washed it so I don't know whether it's that that has drenched the inside or whether it's normal rain because it's parked on a slope. Drive isn't flat so it's got no choice.

Could it be caused by leaf litter in the scuttle area? There's no sunroof in it so it can't be roof drains.

Pollen filter housing.

Do a search on it on here. Loads of posts.

Id recommend getting the carpet up asap. My car had about 2-3 inches of water under it. Ruined the comfort module under the passenger footwell - costing me 300 quid in the process.

The hose for the rear window washer is routed through the front passenger side and has a connection in behind the glovebox that splits and slowly soaks the carpet if unnoticed. However, if your rear washer is working correctly this won't be your problem if soaking has suddenly occurred, just a heads up.

Check the scuttle drain,if its blocked water can then get through the pollen filter.I'd also check the aircon drain, this is where it was getting in to my car.The aircon drain taps into into the scuttle drain that exits under the car above the exhaust,if you have a miltek etc the extra heat sometimes melts the end of the drain and water backs up and it enters via the aircon drain. The aircon drain is located on the passenger side footwell near the front of the gbox tunnel, pull the carpet back and you can see it.Whilst the carpet is out get someone to pour some water down the suttle drain and see if you can see it coming in.There were some good pics on here somewhere but i cant find them.

Thanks. I'll have a good look there as well

Filter thing under the passenger dashboard area is damp as anything. I'd assume that is the pollen filter? I'd guess scuttle drain has blocked yet again. I do try and clear crap off the scuttle area but obviously it's not enough and I need to be rodding the drains!

Car now full of towels and those silica damp catchers :(

Pollen filter is in the engine bay. Under the plastic scuttle cover on the passenger side. The foam gasket between the pollen filter casing and the bodywork rots away and let's water in. I cleaned it all off and sealed it with silicone sealant.

Stupid foam filter at fault! All sorted now. Shame they found a coolant hose that was weeping at the same time. I can see why people find these cars so frustrating to own...

You don't own this car, it owns you. Remember that.

Errrrm, no. It's not like that. If your partner is beating you up then I think you should hand in your man card asap.

She clearly needs a good spanking. I find a good doing, until the point of smoking heavily, usually sorts out the status quo.
