Best engine and gearbox oil

Post by RJC14 » Fri Mar 25, 2016 12:31 am

Hi all, I have been looking on the site for unbiased info on what the best engine and gearbox oil to use? To be fair, there have been some posts on this subjective subject, but no one has really got off the fence and said what they think is the best to use. Any thoughts....

In terms of engine oil I use Castrol Edge FST 5w40. Asda is actually about the cheapest for it at the moment. I think it was £38 for 4 litres or £12 for 1 litre. Halfords was more. May be cheaper online?

Cheers

For gearbox oil, get the Audi stuff. Or try one of the other OE brands listed in the FAQ. Should all be the same stuff, but I always get the Audi stuff.

I suspect none, but in Germany if it says synthetic on it then it must be synthetic. Here it can say synthetic on it but still have mineral crap in it. I bought the TD stuff.
