New Audi RS6 Plus owner - Bilstein + Wagner

Post by Droobui » Fri Dec 25, 2015 5:30 pm

Hello guys,

I think it's time I introduce myself.
I'am a petrolhead, and just bought an Audi RS6 to replace my winter car (Audi S4 B5 Stage 2), summer car is a prep Porsche Cayman S.

I had to find a replacement for the S4 pretty quickly, and was open to all options, but I never thought the RS6 were in the budget for my winter car.
Amazed I was when I saw the market, I quickly went for a few test drives for some "standard" RS6, and I have to say, the rumble of the V8 sells it for 90% for me :)
The sound the car make is just intoxicating, I always liked the Quattro for winter as I live in Switzerland, and need a wagon for my Mountain Bike and so on.
All that to say the RS6 was perfect for all of the above, and you have the pleasure of having a twin turbo V8 with a glory sound :)

So after a few tests, some RS6s were in bad shape, some less, some too expensive.
I came accross the "Plus" version and was reading about it, the only few that were available in Switzerland had very high mileage and were overpriced.
One day, I saw an add for an RS6 plus Black, just like I wanted it, with the Cognac interior, the combo was perfect.
The car was well below the market price (a few K) so I called the same day of the add, already 5 persons had called. The guy was very polite and told me the suspension had to be changed he just went to the MOT and a full report, everything was perfect, except the damn DRC..

Thanks to 246 forum, I knew this damn thing will break anyway, so I made him an offer, and the next day I was onsite to see the most pristine RS6 I came accross all week.
It was the wife's car, (everything at her name and I met her very nice persons both of them) the car was perfectly maintained. You guessed it, I am in love with the RS6.

Here are the pictures, the car is 85'000 miles and just had a service for around 1.5K 2 weeks ago (still they didnt change the drc because of the price quoted by the audi dealership) :

Glad to be on this board.

Already ordred the Wagner intercooler kit for RS6 + and the Bilstein kit to replace the DRC.
Everything should be here by next week.

Awesome. Nice buy.

How's it work for modifications in Swissland? I thought any mods were a no-no.

Also FON. :)
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

Thanks :)

As for the modifications and laws in Switzerland, one wise man said "I don't live by laws, I live by principle" I quite like the idea.
So I always moded my cars in Switzerland and found a way to make it pass, for example the S4 was stage 2 but for the control, I had a stock exhaust and it was not a "tuning car", from the exterior it was bone stock, so .. As long as it is stealthy, and you pass the norm, it will be ok.

PS: What does FON means ?

Welcome mate.

Seeing as you are driving in Winter conditions in Switzerland i would like to know what your tyre choice in the RS6 will be.

I take my RS6 to the Alps every winter from London.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, appreciated :beerchug:

Carlson,

I've been using Snow tires for the last 10 years in several cars, S2000, Audi S4, Civic Type R, and my actual Porsche Cayman S etc.. (so FWD, AWD, and RWD).

If you go to the premium brand, they are pretty much all satifactory, I mean, the michelin Alpin are OK but are very soft and dont last very long. The Blizak are too hard in the other hand. So my sweet spot were the Continental WinterContact TS810 or 830, bit pricey, but amazing grip on the snow, and on the wet and icy cold roads, really nice tire. That's what I got on the Porsche-

But for the RS6 I took a bet this time, I just ordered the following (they arrived at my garage 2 days ago didn't have a look at them yet).
Those are brand new winter tires designed in 2015 or 2014 about that time, I read good reports, but not much since they are pretty new. If any of you have some inputs that would be great :
Hankook Winter icept Evo 2 (apparently produced in europe).

Where in the alps are you taking your car ?

They will be mounted on Saturday.

I had some questions regarding ride height, I wasn't able to find some pictures of RS6 with different ride height with actual number, would you mind sharing yours if it's a little dropped ? And sharing the drop number :)
I am not looking to have a superlow car, maybe 1cm between the arches and the tires, something like that, subtle but efficient.
Thanks.
