Anyone bought a battery recently?

I need a new one. My trusty old Varta having finally given up the ghost.
By my reckoning, the life of this battery was extended by at least 5 years by having it on the conditioner all the time. However, it is a bit of a double-edged sword since having it always charged up and ready to go means that you don't get any warning signs that the battery is about to fail. This happened to me last time I took the car out. Started beautifully, took it out for a spin, then when I put it back in the garage I didn't put the conditioner on it. 24 hours later I went to the car to put it on the conditioner on and there wasn't even enough juice to work the central locking. Luckily, it happened in my garage and not parked in a car park or something.
Anyhoo, if anyone has bought a battery recently, what brand and model did you get? I'm veering towards the Varta again, but I'm open to other ideas.
Also, can anyone confirm it's 394mm long? I don't have access to the car at the mo.
CheeRS.

I got one from Tayna batteries. It's an Enduroline battery, they're reasonably priced and work well in my experience. The regulator on my alternator is failing as you know.. it's drained the new battery dead flat at least 20 times and it's been run nearly flat 80+ times now and still has good capacity and starting power. I thought it'd be fubar by now to be honest! Dunno about the length, I just bought the size the website recommended and it was perfect. I'll measure it later if you want.
Edit, Bilko was right, the 020 is the correct size, not 019.

Thanks. :thanks: Although that one looks like it's too small.
I remember now that my battery is too small and it used to thump around in the boot when I was cornering. This was when I had just bought the car and I remember thinking it was the dreaded DRC.
I've noticed all the car parts sites recommend the wrong size battery. Nothing is easy.

I'll pop out to the car at 12 and measure it up for ya
I had the same with the battery that came with the car, it was a Bosch S4 I think, wedged in with a piece of scrap wood that kept coming out, not very clever.

L393 W175 H190 this is a 020 type battery but a lot of battery catalogues list an 019 for the RS6 which is smaller and wrong. This is the catalogue I use at work
http://batterylookupgb.yuasa.co.uk but it can be wrong as you will see when you look at yours. They list 019 but if you look at trim versions you will see the correct 020 listed.

Bilko's right, it's an 020.
I measured roughly with a ruler, it's 19cm high, 17cm deep and ~400cm wide.

LOL
I repaced mine with a Banner AGM batteries. I went with Banner as that was one of the few makes that are well regarded in the car audio that can be bought fairly easily in the UK. I chose an AGM battery as these are supposed to be better than their non AGM brothers as they can take a lot of abuse from these modern stop / start engines. The downside is that AGM normally cost more and only last about 5 years.

It's good for calcium batteries too as they like higher charge voltages. The AGM setting is 14.8V instead of 14.4.

Think I'm gonna go for the Varta. It's the easiest one for me to get hold of and I like the brand.
ECP don't appear to list any batteries that are the right size. You got the right one?
