Hi Guys
Firstly, I am a RS6 owner just to clarify and apologize for using the RS forum to ask questions on an A4 TDI
Looking for some advice.
The ECU on the wife's 2012 A4 Avant B8 2.0Tdi is kaput !
I have the opportunity to acquire a secondhand ECU and have a number of questions that I need a little help with

1. Can I just plug and play (i do have the opportunity to get the key and barrel to match ECU )
2. Do I require anything else to get the car running with the new ECU
3 Are there any other matching items needed (i have heard that the matching dashboard is required, not sure if that is correct)

with Christmas just around the corner the last thing I need is a visit to the stealers ! so intend doing the work myself
Any help would be like a room at the inn for me
Kind Regards

I don't know much about the recent Audis, but if it was an RS6 you would need to code the immobiliser (dash) to the ECU, but you couldn't do this with a Vagcom. You need a special cable / software. Or just get someone like PetrolDave to do it for you.

Don't think anything else needs coding, security-key-wise. Lots of usual coding to get the configuration the same, but if you can read the old ECU then that shouldn't be too difficult.

But like I said, maybe that doesn't apply to the new A4 platforms. I do believe that it should be a straightforward swap for someone who knows what he's doing.

Hmm, had another look at this, out of curiosity.

Looks like the B8 A4 uses "immobilizer V" where all the stuff (gearbox, central locking, steering column lock, etc) that needs adapting after swapping an ECU is done in one fell swoop with the VAS505x tool.

The good news is that it sounds easy to do. The bad news is that I can't see a way of doing it other than through a VAG dealer.

Hi,

Do you have the part number of the ECU? I'll do some digging for you and see what the options are.
