Fake RS6??!! Please help!

Post by Jonno1888 » Mon Oct 05, 2015 2:35 pm

Hi - can you help.

I am about to view an RS6 with a view to buy. I have entered the reg details into Gocompare and also spoken to my insurance company directly and on both ocassions they say this car is an S6 - not an RS6. ie its registered as an S6. I've seen the photos and description on the autotrader advert below, and had a look at a similar year S6 and the two cars are obviously similar. I havent seen an engine photo though, but the seller assures me its an RS6, with bi-turbo and 2 big turbochargers either side! (I have requested this)

Can anyone tell me if this car is definitely an RS6 by looking at the images on this advert?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... &logcode=p

I am a bit concerned

Many thanks
Jon

Looks like a proper RS6 to me, it would cost a lot of money and even more time to put all the RS6 bits on an S6. And I don't see why anyone would do that. Rear RS6 badge is in a bit of an odd location. Other than that I can't see any issues. Except the undrilled discs, but each to their own.

A couple of S6 owners have done complete conversions bar the motor, all the street cred without the insurance or MPG. I believe the only real difference is the bonnet length.
Insurance companies are pretty crap at having IT systems that identify ALL cars, breakdown services usually only see my car as an A6 until getting further into their systems.

Many thanks guys. I actually just paid £15 for an RAC check and all looks fine. How strange.

Annoying that the suspension has been changed makes a difference of £150 on the insurance policy, but I guess you have to mention this when taking a policy out really - even if in reality replacing the DRC is a benefit

Thanks
Jon

Would advise going with an insurer that doesn't shaft you a 12 year old car having new replacement suspension.

Which insurer you with out of interest?

Good way to put it, but I wouldn't expect logic when it comes to insurance companies! lol

Enjoy the car Jonno, they're awesome machines :kissmyrings:

Thanks guys. I have been looking for ages and just am at that stage where I want to get one, have loved them for years.

I got a quote through Gocompare earlier today, and was £350 approx, but when clicking the 'is your car modified' option and selecting 'suspension', nearly every quote disappeared down to about 12 (instead of 75 odd) and price went up by £150, and mostly for lesser known insurance companies. I then just called Swiftcover and got a quote over the phone but it was £750 which is a joke. I am 40 with 15 years no claims.

Perhaps thats a better way of wording it, replacement suspension. Is it technically a modification though?

My first insurers were Priveledge who did a pretty cheap quote considering it was my first year of ownership (going up from an astra 1.6), and I was only 25.. This year I'd done quite a lot of modifications which bumped up their price too high, in the end I went with Admiral and the modifications didn't make too much difference. Although they did seem touchy about 3 points. I've got 9 now so I have no idea how much insurance will be for me next year, but I'd deffo say give admiral a try.

One thought for you, now you have to declare a mod, any future modifications will have less of an impact on the price ;)

How did they classify mods? I've tried with a couple but when asked about horse power uplift over standard, no one wants to touch it. Except A Flux.

I might have got lucky with admiral, but they didn't even question it, just gave me some pretty broad percentages to choose from. Yours might just fall under the 25% bracket (too lazy to do the math lol)

Here's a pic of my insurance modifications section
