Cryo cooling question

Post by Blacky D » Thu Aug 20, 2015 1:46 pm

Does anyone have this kit installed on their car or other portions of the full system installed?

Not seen this on any RS6 AFAIK.

MRC have fitted water/meth injection to a few I think.

You'd need to be sure you can get the tank refilled - liquid CO2 is not available from a lot of places I imagine. Also you'd need to extend the kit to cover both of the I'C's. There's not a lot of space in front of the I/C's but probably could be shoe-horned in there.

Yeah, was thinking of doing a split system of sorts to where I would get two of the sprayers for each intercoolers. Since I live in 40C+ need to get this heatsoaking problem under control.

Abu Dhabi must be brutal for heatsoak. It's probably best to try all of the other tricks before resorting to this one.

- vent bonnet
- Sportec/Gurney Flap undertray mod
- Wagners
- meth/water injection

blablabla

Sounds fair, I also want to do the meth/water injection just having problems sorting through the devil's own kits. Accomplished the Sportec mod, and instead of Wagners, I have the Apikol ones.

I'd try water sprayed onto the ic s I think it will give pretty good results compared to cryo at a fraction of the cost. Then do water meth injection

You could probably butcher a kit off a Lancer - I think Evo 8's had them fitted. Not sure about other models.

Or just get a spare washer bottle, pump, pipes, and some fine nozzles (thinking aquatic/pond centre for watering systems) that should do the trick.

Have you actually monitored your inlet temperatures?

Don't use the Devils Own kit. I hate it (although I do like the 7 litre boot tank).
I had an HSF-3(?) Aquamist on the saloon but it broke and was replaced under warranty, however, I'm yet to return to MRC so they can refit it.
I digress.
Before it broke, it was awesome and according to Classba (who runs a C6 with 900+ HP) the Aquamist HSF-4 version is even better, 3D mapping blabla. That said I ran the HSF-3 for safety on my 'loon (C5 RS6 MRC stg3 605PS 846Nm), it wasn't mapped to run constantly, if it were, it may be good for another 20-30HP.
The Devils Own kit on my avant (manual C5 RS6 MRC stg? 778PS 869Nm) is mapped for meth, it "apparently" makes 40HP less when the meth is switched off. That said, the avant just doesn't seem to suffer too much from heat soak, well not like the 'loon anyways. The avant has two extra custom oil coolers and a massive FMIC, maybe that's why?

I find the worst thing about these kits is not knowing how to turn them on. What say you bam?
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

Looks simple enough to install, and there is probably room if the SAI pump is removed (guessing - haven't actually checked). But, much as Chunky says, the controls look to be a simple switch, rather than some kind of automated system. I imagine somewhere there must be a sensor which checks the output air temp from the intercoolers and I'd want a feed from this and a little controller to switch on/off the spray.

Anyone do something like that?

Manually having to press a button somewhere is just not going to be practical, and a little 1 litre bottle like that will be empty in minutes if it's left running!

Dave
