Tow Bar (don't shoot me)
Tow Bar (don't shoot me)
Is there any reason why the C5 RS6 doesn't have a town at available (apart from the fact it's not supposed to tow caravans)? I've done a bit of research and have found that the A6 Allroad tow bar will fit without any modification I'm just wondering if it will do any undue damage to the car. I won't be towing anything heavy just a motorbike trailer with my trackbike on it and obviously I won't be flooring it everywhere whilst doing so. Am I mad for even considering it?
Re: Tow Bar (don't shoot me)
A few on here have got/had tow bars fitted. Think Capt ric has one on his. If your happy to have one fitted, go for it, but an RS6 with a tow bar on is a strange thing if you ask me (which you kinda have done)
If I had a shot gun, there are plenty of people I'd shoot before you, but you're now on the list!

Re: Tow Bar (don't shoot me)
I got a factory fitted westfalia towbar from an A6 Allroad, it fitted perfectly, no bumper trimming required and the electrics flip up out of view so even if you were under the car you wouldn't see if unless you were looking for it. I'll get some pictures uploaded when I get back from work.
I do exactly what you want to do, towing track bikes. Usually an R6 and R1 on a double trailer, the car tows absolutely superbly, It's a joke it's not rated!

Yeah mine's declared, but technically the car isn't allowed to tow anyway so not sure if it would do any good in the event of a crash.
Driving at 60mph the risk of us causing a crash is virtually nil, which is why I'm happy to do it. And the trailer's only used about 5-6 times a year anyway.

Had one on mine too, did declare it to the insurance company. Was only used for my bike rack, didn't actually tow anything with it.
As Si says when you take the swan neck off it can't be seen.

Sorry for delay, I'm very forgetful!
So this is the towbar from an A6 Allroad, it's not really as in depth as it looks but took some patience.
Electrics flip down for use, and when flipped up are totally concealed as you can see by second to last pic.

Perfect, thanks for taking the time to share this. We're the electrics easy to do? Bolting and unbolting stuff I can handle however never really tinkered with electrics!SuprSi wrote:Sorry for delay, I'm very forgetful!![]()

Just remember, more weight is more temp and pressure on an already stressed trans. Drive easy and stay off the throttle...
Revo Tune + extra ME7 fueling - MTM TCU - Wagners - Koni Struts - DevilSown W/M - Michelin PSS's - Hotchkis Sways - Upgraded TC/Trans - Mugello/Black/Carbon
Re: Tow Bar (don't shoot me)
Magpie, it's pretty straightforward, you should get a relay box in the kit, all you do is connect the wires for the towing plug to one side, and on the other side you need a 12v feed from the lighter socket, then the only bit that takes a bit more patience is finding the 12v feed going to each type of light and wiring that into the relay box. I might be able to help talk you through it if you got stuck, or any decent mechanic should be able to do it.
Iswing: I thought that before I did it, but pulling away gently and doing 60mph, the engine/box is hardly working at all.
Tbh I think failures are caused by fluid going off or too much torque, I'm confident in saying this won't harm the box unless you try towing a sunseeker up a hill! A couple of sports bikes is nothing.
